{Faith Journaling} Challenge #112

So yesterday I read an article by Renee Swope. She was talking about how she talks to Jesus each day before her feet even hit the floor. She said "Otherwise, I'll start talking to myself and before I know it, I'll be overhwhelmed by all I need to do and how much time I don't have." I really liked what she said. So, today please share:

Oh, the Bluebonnets!

Oh, how I love this time of year in Texas when the bluebonnets come out across the state. Last year they didn't bloom very pretty because of our extreme drought. However, this year, WOW! They are stunning! I just got back from my 55 minute bike ride, and I took 40 pictures. Not sure how much exercise I got in because I kept stopping to take photos. LOL! Here are a few of the beauties I passed on my ride:




And then I think I found a new prayer spot. I have my favorite prayer spot in South Carolina but I really don't have a favorite spot around my home. Well, I found it this morning:


In this spot you hear nothing but the bubbling water and the wild birds. It is absolutely paradise! I just stood there and prayed this morning. Next time I will load up my bike basket with a blanket and my Bible. Just an amazing place of peace and beauty!

Romans 1:19-20 "since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."

Frederick M. Lehman was born in Meck­len­burg, Schwer­in, Ger­ma­ny. Mr. Lehman and his family emigrated to the U.S. when he was 4 years old, and they lived in Iowa for most of his life. In college, he studied for the ministry and became a pastor. He pastored churches in Iowa, Indiana, and Missouri. Mr. Lehman was devoted to writing sacred songs and had hundreds of songs published. Below is a quote written by Mr. Lehman about the history of this hymn:

"One day, dur­ing short in­ter­vals of in­at­ten­tion to our work, we picked up a scrap of pa­per and, seat­ed up­on an emp­ty le­mon box pushed against the wall, with a stub pen­cil, add­ed the (first) two stan­zas and chor­us of the song…Since the lines (3rd stan­za from the Jew­ish po­em) had been found pen­ciled on the wall of a pa­tient’s room in an in­sane asy­lum af­ter he had been car­ried to his grave, the gen­er­al opin­ion was that this in­mate had writ­ten the epic in mo­ments of san­ity.

Mr. Lehman's daughter, Claudia, har­mo­nized ma­ny of the songs writ­ten by her fa­ther. Claudia was one of 9 children to Mr. Lehman who died in Pasadena, Cal­i­for­nia and is buried in Forest Lawn Cem­e­te­ry, Glendale, Cal­i­for­nia.

Yesterday as my husband and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary, I thought not only about our love for each other but also about the immeasurable love that God has for us. We are approaching Holy Week, and there isn't a better time than now to look at this hymn and the love God poured out for us and the love we are to show others!

Romans 8:38-39 "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Ephesians 3:18b-19 ". . . may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."

I love those two verses. Not only can nothing separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus but the deepness of Christ's love for us is beyond our ability to understand. Wow, now that's a statement. Here Paul talks about praying that we know the depth of Christ's love for us but he follows it up with "this love that surpasses knowledge." His love for us is truly immeasurable! We know God by what He reveals to us but even then we will never fully understand Him. Jesus, out of immeasurable love, paid the sin debt we owed, and the gift to us is salvation. Have you received that gift? Have you always believed but never received? Have you asked Him to be your personal Lord and Savior? If not, will you do that today? E-mail me with questions. I am more than pleased to share! His death for us proves His immeasurable love!

Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Ephesians 2:4-5 "But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved."

As we look at God's immeasurable love for us, we must remember that we are to show that same kind of love to the world. Our debt to love has no ending balance as people always need love! Let's look at some questions and principles about love:

Romans 2:5-6 "But if anyone obeys His word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did."

*True Christian faith results in loving behavior.
*To get along with other Christians, we need to love them and show it.
*We should love and care for each other as believers.

Romans 12:9-10 "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves."

*Sincere love adjusts to the needs of others.
*Sincere love is demonstrated in both attitudes and actions.
*Is the love you show a pretend love out of politeness or is it a sincere love?

Romans 13:14 "Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature."

*We are to hate the sin and love the sinner just as God loves us but detests our sin.
*True love does not enable sinful behavior but encourages right behavior.
*Attitudes are as important as actions.
*What kind of love do your attitudes and actions display?

2 Thessalonians 3:5 "May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance."

*Love is a decision and a choice that effects our feelings and emotions.
*Pray for Godly love daily!

Does the love you display identify you as a Christian or do you look just like the world? I pray that you can identify the areas where God may want you to change and grow in His love for others.

For my 5x7 page today, I used the new Our Daily Bread Designs set called "Scripture Collection 8" using the 1 Timothy 1:14 scripture that says "The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus." That scripture is just perfect for our hymn"The Love of God." And as you can see, I stamped the scripture in red which I thought was perfect for His blood poured out for me. I also used the ODBD set called "Sweet Friendship" for the frame around the scripture.

{Crochet} Change of Plans & a Pattern

If you visited my blog on Friday, you know that I started a rainbow bobble afghan. If you missed my post, please click here. Well, after my post, Annette kindly e-mailed me and told me she had misunderstood the pattern I was asking her for. So, the pattern I was doing was not the one I actually wanted. The pattern I wanted she does not have written down but she told me that "the rainbow blanket I made was a very simple stitch with no real pattern, it's a repeat, row after row, of one TC then one SC in each stitch. I started each row with a turn and a CH3 and ended each row with a DC." Well, I played with what she said, and I didn't like the bobbles using a TC. So, I have now created my own pattern. This is the first pattern I have ever created, and I must say I LOVE it because I don't have to carry a pattern with me. LOL! I made it up thus I know what is next. LOL! Now, this is not a complicated pattern by any means but I hope that you enjoy it! Here is how my afghan looks thus far:

I really love the bobbles lined up. The other pattern I was doing I just didn't like the huge bobbles. You can change the size of a bobble by the number of dc you put into one stitch (see my pattern for details of a bobble stitch). I also didn't like that the bobbles did not line up. Anyway, . . .

I will post my pattern here but please note that this is for personal use only. Please link people back to this post if anyone wants the pattern. I would appreciate it! This pattern has only been tested by me, and I have not done the border yet so I may have to edit the pattern once I play with it. Enjoy, and let me know what you think! ODBD {4th Anniversary} Blog Hop

Welcome to the Our Daily Bread designs 4th Anniversary Special Design Team Edition Release Blog Hop!  You should be joining me from Silke's awesome blog. The bread sticks are so excited to be celebrating ODBD's 4th anniversary! I am truly blessed designing for a company that glorifies God in every stamp set and shares Him in everything! As Christian's that's what we are called to do, and I couldn't ask for a better company to design for!! Huge congrats Kelley and team on 4 years!!!! May God continue to bless ODBD in the years ahead!!!

Now, if you are a long term follower of ODBD, then you know that each year the Design Team submits a favorite Scripture for the special anniversary sets. So far all of the "Scripture Collection" stamp sets in the store have come from those DT submissions. This year, the special sets not only include our favorite scriptures but also quotes and sentiments. How fun is that?  I am sure you have seen some of the amazing sets on the hop thus far! Now for all of the details of the Anniversary Hop, please be sure to visit this post on the ODBD blog. You won't want to miss any of the fun!

This year for the 4th anniversary set, I submitted a sentiment that I found. So, my card highlights that sentiment in the new "Sentiments Collection." I embossed the sentiment in white and then colored the background using distress inks. For the pink background paper, I used a shopping bag I had saved. It was definitely too pretty to throw away. :) I also used both the Cheery Lynn Designs Fanciful Flourish die and the Spellbinders Fleur de Lis die.

Loving Color!

Oooh, I don't know about you, but I LOVE color! It just makes me happy! Of course I have my favorites but sometimes a rainbow of everything is what I really enjoy! Well, this amazing lady, Annette, created this gorgeous afghan using the Bobble stitch. Yes, that is her gorgeous afghan in the photo below! Be sure to see Annette's post here.

I asked her what yarn she used and about the pattern, and she linked me to this site for the pattern. She used the Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn for the afghan. So, I of course has to run to the store, and on the same day I ran to Hobby Lobby to grab the yarn to create this beauty, I got this gorgeous ad in the mail:

 

Did any of you get this? Look at those colors and those yellow wellies! So yummy! It's a 'keeper ad' for sure! I almost want to hang it on my wall. Just love it! Anyway, I decided to base my color rows off of this ad. Annette did not use teal in her afghan but I am going to add it as it is so beautiful. Otherwise, I think we are using close to the same colors. The ad did too. Did they see Annette's afghan? LOL! Anyway, here is how I will do my rows:

*Burgundy
*Pinks
*Grey/White
*Orange
*Yellows
*Grey/White
*Greens
*Teals
*Grey/White
*Blues
*Grey/White

You will notice that I have noted 'grey/white' in the list above. I have both a light grey yarn and white. I am not sure what I will use in between the colors. What do you think would look great? The ad had a light grey, and I like it so that may be my choice. Then I will use white on the edging as Annette did. I am just not sure. I think my second attempt at this afghan, I will follow the ad colors exactly for a different look. I can't wait to see how they both turn out. I better get goin'. :) Here is how my first little afghan has started out this week:

Notice the 'bobbles' on my afghan are offset. Annette has hers lined up but I am trying the 'offset' look. LOL! I can see myself making these afghans to donate, as gifts, etc. I really love this and all of the colors. {ODBD Anniversary} Designer Favorites Flower Hunt Game


Welcome to the 4th anniversary fun at Our Daily Bread designs! Today we are having a game of sorts. One dozen of the bread sticks have baked up a special scavenger hunt game! We decided to shower ODBD with a bouquet of flowers, since flowers are one of the traditional gifts for a 4th anniversary. Hoppers will be collecting these flowers along the way, and creating a beautiful bouquet for Kelley and all of Our Daily Bread designs! We each have created a special card or project using at least one of our own personal ALL TIME FAVORITE ODBD sets. SIX of us will also have a special "Designer’s Flower Hunt Game" blog button with a special flower on it! You will want to look for it in the designer’s side bars of their blogs as you hop through. You never know which 6 designers out of the 12 of us has a special flower! You will want to start at the ODBD blog for all of the details and then begin search! Now let's look at my four favorite ODBD stamp sets and then what I created with two of the sets. Click on the title of each set to see an image of the set.

Honeycomb Background
I love this particular background because it works so amazingly on everything especially art journaling pages! But with that said I have used it on cards and scrapbook pages too. It is a great, great background for all thing paper crafting and mixed media!

Faith
This set not only has wonderful scriptures but it has a title (Faith) and a quote from Mother Theresa. Then if that were not enough, there is a gorgeous butterfly image that goes with the set. Truly a favorite and so versatile!

God's Love
When this particular set was released, I knew I had to have it. I love butterflies, and the butterfly in this set is stunning. I also love the verse and quote. They work so well for the scrapbook pages I create of my girls!

The Word of God
And what can I say about this set? I LOVE God's Word, and I love the Bible image. I create new journals each year, and this set works perfectly for journals, cards, scrapbook pages, etc. Needless to say, I use this set a lot!

So, what did I do with two of the sets? Well, I created an 8x8 scrapbook page of one of my girls. I used the title and quote from the Faith set. I then used a portion of the butterfly image from the God's Love set for the banner below the photo. I was trying to think of how to use the image differently. I had a lot of fun with this page!

{HSCRC12} Hymn #6, Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us

Hymn Challenge #6: Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us

Words Attributed to: Dorothy A. Thrupp
b. June 20, 1779; d. Dec. 14, 1847

b. 1816; d. 1868

Dorothy Ann Thrupp was born in London, June 20, 1779, to Joseph Thrupp and Mary Burgan. From what I can tell, she was 1 of 15 children to Joseph and Mary. I was not able to find that she ever married or had children of her own. If you look at the sheet music below, you will notice it says "Words attributed to Dorothy Ann Thrupp; Music by William B. Bradbury, 1859." The reason it states that is because no one knows who really wrote the words to this hymn. Miss Thrupp would not sign her hymns but she would note her initials--"D.A.T." This hymn was found amongst her other collections but was not signed in any way.

The first verse of this hymn says:

Verse 1
Savior, like a shepherd lead us, much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us, for our use Thy folds prepare.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.

So, what do you think of when you think of a shepherd? Do you know much about shepherds and sheep? I know I don't but I do know that Jesus is my Shepherd. Jesus in not only the Shepherd who leads us but He is also the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  Jesus isn't just doing His job. He loves us and laid His life down for us.

John 1:29 "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'"

Let's look at a few definitions regarding shepherding:

Sheepfoldan enclosure for sheep; Church of God where believers gather to glorify God.

Undershepherda person who protects, guides, or watches over someone or a group of people; God appointed shepherds to feed His sheep; clergy.

SheepGod's people.

Now let's look at sheep (God's people/believers):

**Sheep trust and depend on the shepherd for their daily needs. Who are you depending on for your daily needs self or Jesus the believers' Shepherd? Who are you teaching your children/grandchildren to depend on?

**Sheep are meek and quiet and don't stir up trouble. Are you stirring up trouble around you or do you lovingly handle situations as God would want them handled?

**Sheep are sacrificial animals. God calls believers to lay down their lives for others. Are you denying yourself and following Him, or are you 'allowing yourself' and 'following self'?  Luke 9:23 "Then He said to them all: 'If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.'"

**Sheep should be employed by the Shepherd. How are you serving in the Kingdom for the Shepherd?

As the hymns says, He leads us, He tenderly cares for us, He seeks us when we go astray, He loves us, He bought us, and we are His! Sometimes He has to break us and carry us to change us but we can always trust that He tenderly cares for His sheep. Praise God for His glorious gift! Do you belong to the sheepfold? If not, He would love for you to enter the gate and come to Him!

Isaiah 40:11 "He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young."

For my 5x7 page today, I used the Our Daily Bread Designs set called "Lord is my Shepherd." Not only is the image perfect in this set but there are SO many great verses for today's study. Be sure to click here to look at the entire set! I used the sheep/lamb image to create sort of a toile background on my blue paper. It's hard to see the blue since there wasn't any good light but the finished page shows it a bit better. I loved using this stamp to make toile paper!


The verses I used were from the same setJohn 1:29 which was listed above and Psalm 100:3.

Art {Journaling} Tiny Pages

Wow, can you believe I am posting two Art {Journaling} pages? I can't! I know it felt amazing to finally pull my paints, gesso, and other goodies out. I have been so overwhelmed but I got this new tiny journal by Moleskine, and I wanted to play with it. It's called the Moleskine Sketchbook Pocket. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it as it only measures 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" but after watching some of Donna Downey's Inspiration Wednesday posts, I decided this would be the perfect journal to try out the techniques she shares in her videos. I also thought it would be good for a tiny scripture memory book. I am not quite sure where this tiny book will take me but I am giving it a try. Let's look at what I did with my first page.

In one of Donna's videos, she shared how she put some twine down on a page, gesso'd over it, and just had fun painting her page. I decided that twine on a page would be new for me so why not try it in this tiny journal. Here is how it looked when I started:

It's a bit hard to photograph this journal as it doesn't stay open very well. I am sure I will break the binding at some point. LOL!

Then after playing with the first small page, I decided to do a second page. This is of Isaiah 55:11. A favorite scripture of mine that I can never seem to remember the address. Ugh! So, maybe this will help me by putting down in paint. LOL!

Donna Downey tends to use a lot of tags on her pages. I like that thus you see both of the above pages have tags on them. Very fun! I also got a new toy this week for $29, and I can see myself using this on art journaling pages, scrapbook pages, cards, everything. Oh the memories this "manual beauty," the Smith-Corona Sterling typewriter, has brought back to me. Gotta love that bell and carriage return! :)
