Sunday's {Search} & Other News

Today I wanted to share something that I have been using as my family and I search for our new church home. I found this book called the "Sermon Note Keeper."

Well, most of you have seen the notebooks I alter for Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) each year. Well, I certainly could have altered one for taking sermon notes too but I haven't had time and plus this little gem was 50% off. So, I thought I would give it a try. Well, I must say that I am in love. Inside there is space to write: date and time, place, speaker, topic, notes, and how it applies to my life. I usually have so many notes that I don't have room to write how it applies to my life plus I also like to add the titles of the hymns that we sang that particular morning. (Note: click photo to enlarge.)

This particular Sunday I didn't take as many notes. I wanted to show you a semi-clean page. LOL! Anyway, I have found this to be very helpful and thought I would share it with each of you in case you want to alter your own notebook to make for sermon notes. And for fun, I will give away one of these notebooks to one of my readers. Just leave a comment in the comment section stating if you take sermon notes and what you use to keep your notes in. Leave your comment by tomorrow night, Monday, August 13, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern, and I will announce the winner on Tuesday! I will also include one of my canvas bookmarks that I have made. :)

I also wanted to let you know that I feel I may be able to resume the Hymn and Scripture Challenge on Sunday, August 26th. Please pray that God expand my time and that He give me His words to resume this study. Thanks for stopping by everyone, and blessings to each of you!

  2. Love this!! I usually write my notes on the church bulletin or piece of paper in my purse. What a great way to organize them in one place!!

  3. I LOVE your little Sermon Notebook! I've ALWAYS taken notes in church. TODAY, we went to church, looking for a NEW CHURCH! We haven't been in church for nearly 7 years! (We went through some really rough times, from family, school, work AND church; circumstances led us to move away from everything & everyone we knew.) Everything that happened left us broken hearted! It's taken us this long to even WANT TO look for a church home again! We went to church this morning & I had to ask my daughter for her tablet she kept in her purse! Which made me WISH I had remembered to get myself a new notebook just for sermons! I'll be looking around at the store to find a notebook...Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  4. Patter, I love taking sermon notes. Our church provides an outline in the bulletin every week, but it is only a fill in the blank sheet of paper. I like to take more notes than that, and also include my thoughts on how I can incorporate, remove, or change things for the week in myself. This notebook looks like a gem. Good find, and thanks for the chance to see it and maybe win one.!

  5. Taking notes in worship services and yes !BSF! is a long-time practice of mine. I'm card-making with hymns and scripture verses ... your work is an inspiration. How do I let you know that I have a new e-mail address? I don't want to miss a thing.

  6. I always take sermon notes. My memory isn't what is used to be so it's great to have a "reference guide" when I'm meditating on the word later on. I use a little notebook that was given to me by a secret sister in Christ last year. It actually says bible study on the cover, but it's small enough for me to keep in my bible tote so I use it for my sermon notes.

So glad that you may be resuming the hymn and scripture challenge soon. The ladies in my scrapbooking fellowship will be excited to hear this.

    Blessings,
    Gemiel

  7. Yeah TLady for heading back to church. I pray it was an AMAZING morning for your family!

bowdonl, I too used to write notes on the bulletin. Goodness, it got messy, they were never organized, and then I couldn't ever find what I was looking for! I am lovin' this new little book for sure!

anonymous, to change your e-mail, go to my blog, and on the left hand side look for the section marked "SUBSCRIBE HERE FOR MY {LATEST} BLOG UPDATES!" It's just below "My Resume." Enter your new address and hit "subscribe me." You won't miss a thing after that! :) Hope that helps!

  9. I don't take sermon notes per se. I do like the idea. I sometimes write verses I want to remember on the bulletin and then take them home with the intent of transfering them to my prayer/devotion journal. That is just a binder that I altered. But I really need to make another and separate them.
Hope the move is going well. We moved in March. I still haven't touched all of the boxes in the basement.

  10. Patter I love this book! I use to take sermon notes and then I had so many filled notebooks, I decided to give it up for a while. But now that I have seen this beauty, I think I will alter one of the books I have here to take sermon notes. Thanks so much for sharing with us and I will be praying that God will lead you straight to the church He has in mind for you.

  11. Glad to hear of other sisters who attended church this morning. I've been away for two Sundays, and am glad to be "home." A blank book or notebook "beats the pants off" (figuratively, of course) random stray papers and sermon outline sheets. Some days I take more notes than others, but it is a useful place to write down prayer requests, verses to memorize, and even ideas I believe God gives me from the scripture even if the pastor doesn't say those words. I, too, am praying for you & your family to find a new church home (Tlady & her family, too). I love what Debbie Macomber wrote about making a list of all the ideal qualities of a church she hoped to find, and then God let her know "That's heaven." So she knew whatever they found would have its drawbacks, but would still be a place to grow.
    Blessings, ladies---Jennifer in OH

P.S. In addition to worshipping God, fellowship with friends old and new, a kind lady was giving away fresh veggies from her car in the parking lot. YUM!!

  12. What a fabulous idea! I always just write on my bulletin and copy it later into one of my many "things I want to remember" books. A book specifically for sermon notes would be just the thing. Makes me wonder why I didn't think of it before! Thanks for sharing. Tina S

  13. What a great book and a great opportunity. Often, I find myself wishing I had something to keep notes with but then wonder if it is something that I would "stick" with.

  15. This is a great book for taking notes during sermons. I am an avid note taker when our Pastor is preaching. I use a journal I found at our local Christian book store. It's almost full so an opportunity to win another one would be great.
Sending prayers your way that you find a new church home where you will fit and flourish.

  16. Patter, what a great resource! I keep telling myself that I should make a sermon note keeper, but I forget and end up using the back of the church bulletin. Not a very good system! Blessings with your search for a church home. It's a tough process, I know!

  17. I am also visiting churches looking for a new home. i have taen notes for years but having a system would make it so much better.

  18. I love the note book for sermons. It would be easy to fix one using that one as a guide. I am so happy that you will be starting back the scripture challenge! I really enjoy your writings and find them very inspirational. Keep up the good work.

  19. Oh Patter, you would ask that question!!! You would be ashamed to see my bits and pieces of paper that I write notes on. My bookmarks for the Bible passages are beautiful, but my notes are a mess.

  20. Our pastor usually includes an outline with space for notes in the bulletin...but then it gets folded up and stuck in my bible cover...and eventually thrown out in a few months..so this would be great!

  21. I have a little notebook that I keep in my purse, but I love how organized this notebook is!!

  22. Taking notes was something I never thought about until I attended a church that gave a notes outline of the message with fill in the blanks. I started putting extra info in the margin. When we moved to our current church they didn't do note outlines much to my disappointment but provide a section in the worship guide for notes. It is no where near big enough for any substantial notes. I found a nice journal that fit in my bible bag. Lately I have been using a 5 subject notebook. It is nothing fancy. I do find note taking to be very tough as I always feel like I miss things while I am writing. Though since our church posts the message online I do have the option of going back and watching the message at a later date.

The book you found looks like a great resource.

  23. Hi Patter - I keep my notes in a notebook that will fit in my Bible bag, but this looks fabulous with all the headings.
So pleased to hear that the Hymns are in the offing again.
    Blessings

  24. So funny that you posted this today because this morning in church I panicked when I thought I didn't have a pen to take notes with! I began taking notes when I was a teenager to have a record of the sermons my Dad preached. Dad's retired from Pastoring now and I love that I have these notes. I use a 9"x 7" composition book from the Dollar store.

  25. I have a hard time taking notes in church. My husband does not come and I have 3 girls with me ages ranging from 7 to 10 months. I think I could find a way to use the notebook in homeschool for daily devotional

  26. I am a serious notetaker and use a leather journal that is embossed with the names of God. But, Explorers Bible Study is starting in two weeks and I was going to alter a book for notes this year, but I really think your new find would be perfect. I am always encouraged when I visit with you....thanks for being faithful. Blessings, Diane

  34. I usually use a sheet of unlined paper folded in half. The notes keep collecting but are not connected in one booklet so this would be wonderful. Thanks for such a great offer.

  35. I either write notes of what date of serman that our minister talked on...if I don't have my bible our church prints out booklets that have a fill in the blank paper to follow along. When I get home I put them in a small binder. I would LOVE to win your notebook. Good luck in getting your new home put back together....God bless you Patter for all you do to show others ways to love the Lord even more!!!
