Challenge Word #10: Journey

Have you ever been on a journey by yourself? Not a short journey but a long, drawn out journey? If so, what was it like? Most of us have probably been on a short journey by ourselves but not a long, drawn out journey. I think over time it would be hard, lonely, and maybe even frustrating. As Christians we are called to “journey with Jesus.” Our journey begins by accepting the blood of Christ that wipes away our sins. Romans 3:22-24 says “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior is that bottom rung of the ladder. We are not called to stay on that rung but to continue to journey with Jesus growing more like Him as we do (a process called sanctification). 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 says “May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.”

Journeying with Jesus means:
(**Please note, I highly encourage you to look up each of these scriptures, and may you be blessed as you read and meditate on each one.)

• We have eternal life. (John 3:14-16)
• We are saved from His eternal wrath. (Romans 5:8-10)
• We will have a peace that surpasses all understanding. (Philippians 4:6-7, 2 Thessalonians 3:16)
• We will have an ever-present Counselor who guides us in all truth. (John 16:13-14)
• We are marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:13)
• We experience joy, thankfulness, and a desire to pray for others. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
• We will have a protector. (Psalm 32:7, Nahum 1:7)
• He helps us persevere in times of trial. (James 1:2-3)
• We gain genuine wisdom. (James 3:17-18)
• We have the fruit of the spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23)
• We accept His Word as truth, and it is at work in us transforming us. (1 Thessalonians 2:13)
• We have an everlasting Father. (Isaiah 9:6)

These are just a few of the things we receive when we journey with Jesus. No gift, no amount of money or knowledge can ever give us what Christ gives us. Why would you choose to journey without Him? And if you are journeying with Jesus, are you moving up the ladder or are you still sitting on that bottom rung?

For my page this week, I chose two verses from the ODBD Scripture Collection 1:

Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Isaiah 12:2 “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD Himself, is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation."

I also used the ODBD set called As You Graduate to put behind the Romans scripture. I thought the path through the trees was a great image to use for 'journey'. Then I used the set Bird Border and Corners to decorate the tab on the upper left corner just a bit. I also broke out my acrylic paint and painted the edges of the Prima Sparkling Spring papers. I haven't done that in a long time, and I love the effect!

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 34}

Happy Saturday! Doing anything fun today? My hubby is on his way back from India so in a just a few hours we will be enjoying having him home!!!!!! Yeah! But for you, how about a little crafting challenge? The ODBD Challenge Team has a fun one for you today--use kraft and black on your creation. You can use one other color plus one to two neutrals but that is it.

Now my biggest challenge was deciding on the one color I wanted to add to my creation. After contemplating it for a while, I saw these gorgeous green Zva Creative pearl flourishes that I had just gotten from ODBD, and I immediately knew that green would be the winning "extra color." I also colored a bit of green on the water pump and pail too. The ODBD stamp set is called "Never Thirst."

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 32}

Welcome back to another challenge week! It feels great to be back with another challenge for you! This week's challenge is Leaf It--Use leaves on your creation, it can be a part of your patterned paper, your image, your charms, just so it has leaves on it (gold leafing does not count as leaves unless it is a leaf itself).

I created this "leafy" card for my parent's as a thank you for a very precious gift they surprised my husband and I with a few weeks ago. This card doesn't even begin to express the "thanks" I truly wanted to give them but I did poured my heart into this card!! I got my finger stuck under the needle in my sewing machine and bled everywhere. Thank goodness it didn't get on the card! LOL! Let's see, I have been sewing for about 33 years, and I have never done that before. I guess this truly is a special card! :) Anyway, I used the ODBD set "The Lord Has Risen" since it has beautiful leaves on the image. Then I also used part of a sentiment from the ODBD "The Living Bread" set. To color my image, I used Copics and colored pencils. :)

It's a VERY Special ODBD Birthday!!!!

Today is Kelley's Birthday! If you don't know who Kelley is, you are truly missing a blessing. Kelley is the owner of Our Daily Bread Designs. She is amazing to design for and her love for our Lord shines through the beautiful stamps she releases each month!! The sticks in the bread basket (ODBD DT and CT) have put together a little blog hop just for her and for our ODBD followers! So to celebrate Kelley, we have all created a card using older Our Daily Bread Designs sets and are showing them here. Each of us will then be sending our cards to Kelley to use for her boards in the ODBD booth. Being under the lights and packed and unpacked week after week takes it's toll on the card samples she has, so it's good to update from time to time. So watch out Kelley, you are getting a whole new batch of "show cards." :)

For my card I decided to use the older ODBD set called "Lord is my Shepherd. " I love this set, and after I created my card, I thought "Oooh, what an adorable image for welcoming a new baby too! I used my watercolor pencils to color my image. The sky is colored blue but it's hard to see in the photos.

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 30}

Happy Saturday! Are you ready to create? How about another fun challenge from the ODBD Challenge Team? This week the team is challenging you to make your creations white and bright. Use all white on your card except for your stamped image and embellishments. That means no designer paper unless it is all white.

Wow, did I have a time creating this card. Not using any color or patterned paper was a challenge for me. So, I grabbed my SU re-inkers and went crazy. I started by dropping dots of ink all over my Memory Box Soire paper. Then I misted it and moved around my paper to get the ink to drip all over. One of my daughter's walked in and said "What are you doing with that?" I could tell from the tone she wasn't impressed. LOL! I told her to just wait and see. Well, after drying, I stamped it with the Light of the World set. I then cut it out with the new Spellbinders Beaded Oval die. I think the effect turned out pretty neat, and I had fun making a true mess!

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 23}

Happy challenge day!!! I sure hope you are enjoying these challenges as much as I am! If you haven't played along with us yet, please feel free to jump in the fun at anytime! We would love to see what you create! This week's challenge is to use a ribbon, a charm, and one other embellishment; however, no flower embellishments unless it is your charm! How's that for a fun challenge? :)

I decided to use this challenge to create a card for someone near and dear to my heart in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) that lost her brother last week. I pray that this card will brighten her day just a bit amidst a very difficult time. For this card, I used Basic Grey papers and Zva Creative pearl flourishes. I also used two ODBD stamp sets--Ask, Seek, Knock, and Scripture Collection 4.

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 22}

Most of you know that I love distressing on my creations! Well, this week's ODBD challenge was right up my alley--the challenge is to "Distress it. You can use ink, tearing, or ripping...whatever it takes to give a distressed look somewhere on your creation."

For my distressed creation, I decided to create a 9x9 layout. I have so many photos that I need to scrap, and I truly miss doing scrapbook pages!! For my layout, I used my Making Memories edge distresser to tear up the edges a bit, and then I inked the edges in grey chalk ink. These particular photos are from Harbour Town on Hilton Head Island, SC. I used three ODBD stamp sets on this page. The flowers come from the ODBD set called "The Lord Has Risen." The scripture is from the ODBD set called "Scripture Collection 4," and I used the ODBD set "Fleu de Lis Borders" as a border between the photos. The Zva Creative pearl flourishes also come from the ODBD store. You definitely can't have enough of those flourishes on hand!! :) Papers: Basic Grey Olivia, Bazzill cs

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 21}

Do you like to color? I love to color. The night before I was married, my sister and I sat at my grandmother's kitchen counter and colored in coloring books with Crayons! How fun!!! And for others of you that love to color like me, this week's ODBD Challenge is for you! This week you need to use and image you can color and color it.

For my image, I chose flowers. I love flowers though if they are left under my care, they will die! LOL! And since pink is my favorite color, I thought it only appropriate to color them in shades of pink. I used the ODBD set called Grow in Grace. I also used the awesome Zva Creative pearl flourishes also sold in the ODBD store. Love these pearls! Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 15}

Wow, is it already the last Saturday in May? How can it be Memorial Day weekend already! I tell ya, the older you get the faster time flies! Today, the ODBD Challenge Team would love for you to use stars and/or stripes on your creation. Since Memorial Day is Monday, we thought this would be fun. Please note that your card or project can be patriotic but it does not have to be. And thank you to all of our military and military families that have served this amazing country. And a special thanks goes out to my precious Dad, my husband, and my father-in-law for all serving in the U.S. Air Force! I am so proud of all 3 of these amazing men!

For my card, I chose not to do a patriotic theme. It is also my grandmother's birthday this weekend. She is the one many of you have been praying for after she suffered several mini strokes Mother's Day weekend. She is not any better but we continue to pray for God's will for her! We truly appreciate your prayers! I am praying she will like her card. I used the new Basic Grey Max & Whiskers paper. You can see one of the patterns is striped so it worked perfect for the challenge. Then I added a chipboard star for fun! :) To dress it up a bit I added the awesome Zva Creative pearls that are also available in the ODBD store. The sentiment comes from the ODBD set Happy Birthday.
