Challenge Word 4: Righteous
God’s Attribute: Jeremiah 23:6 “. . . This is the name by which He will be called: The Lord our Righteousness.” (Jehovah-Tsidkenu)
How does this affect my daily life? R.C. Sproul says “The struggle we have with a Holy God is rooted in the conflict between God’s righteousness and our unrighteousness. He is just, and we are unjust.” Because of our sin nature, we can never be good enough for God. Nothing we do will ever be good enough. God is perfect in His Holiness, and we will never meet His standard. That’s the bad news. But there is good news to come!
Job 4:17 “Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can a man be more pure than His Maker?”
Ecclesiastes 7:20 “There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.”
Daniel 9:14 “. . .for the Lord our God is righteous in everything He does; yet we have not obeyed Him.”
But the good news is that in His grace, He offers us righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:24) Righteousness is a right relationship or a right standing with God then conforming to His character and living in obedience to Him. He judges sin but because of Christ’s death on the Cross on our behalf, He suffered the punishment we deserve.
Do you ever compare yourself to your neighbor, a friend, a co-worker, aquaintence, etc.? Do you want what they have? Or are you full of pride and self-righteousness? Well, God does not want us to compare ourselves to others, and we are not to be prideful. He is our only standard of righteouness. Loving, pleasing, and obeying God should be our first priority! (Matthew 5:6) Over the days and weeks ahead, I challenge you to take one sinful thing in your life and replace it with something good. Pray about it. What does God want you to remove? As believers, our character should mature as we grow in Christ.
For my page this week, I used the new Unity release Saved. It is a gorgeous cross stamp. I chose to break the image up into inchies because we are “broken” without Him. In Him, He will clothe us in His Righteousness! And the papers are from October Afternoon. I was inspired by a card by Bonnie Sharp. She used some October Afternoon papers for her card, so I had to pull out my paper and play with it too! Thanks Bonnie!
The scriptures I chose were:
Ezra 9:15a "Oh Lord, God of Israel, you are Righteous!"
Psalm 119:142 "Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true."
Psalm 145:17 "The Lord is righteous is all His ways and loving toward all He has made."
Have fun studying and creating! Remember to use the Keyword HHN09, and to chat about the challenge, join us in this thread here on Splitcoaststampers! Blessings to each of you!

Thanks Patter for your blog, it's inspiration at it's best. My 13 year old daughter and I just started the scripture challenge, I'm hoping to get her excited about the scriptures a little more ;) and scrapping them seems to be helping!! Thanks again and God Bless!
Beautiful page Patter! I just ordered the Something Within set and can't wait to start using it on my pages!
Can't wait to start this week!! This is one of the characteristics of God I struggled with when we lost our twins almost 8 years ago. Can't wait to learn more.
It's Sunday eve, had one of those wonderful, lazy Sunday afternoon naps and now so excited to begin my study of God's name 'righteous'.
Your page is beautiful, Patter, I love the greens so symbolic of growing and the cross broken into inchies is marvelous!
Bless you and thank you.
Susan
Patter, I have enjoyed your blog so much, so more thanks to you! I am looking forward to learning more on this weeks word. My husband has been watching for your words also. :)
What a beautiful writing and card. I love your site.
This is just a beautiful layout. Thanks for this wonderful eye candy.
Thanks for the new bible studie. I will be working on it today. It is a blessing that i found your blog and the His Holy Name Challenge. Thanks!!!
Beautiful Patter! I love the use of the inchies and your broken cross is so striking in it's symbolism.....and naturally, I love the October Afternoon papers...... there is a reason I found you and your sites....
Thank you so much for the work you're doing here. I'm totally new to blogging and have studiously avoided it because of time constraints. But, with the help of WORDPRESS FOR DUMMIES, I'm moving forward. I have added a blog to our website (www.wordwarriorministries.org) and will be uploading Challenge 3 shortly. I am looking forward to exploring Challenge 4 in the days ahead.
Thank you also for opening the doors to new products and product applications. I had not worked with ATC's until I saw your Scripture cards. I had not heard about "inchies" either . . . so I'm checking into that as well.
We've recently added a scrapbooking component to our ministry. Our focus and call is on creativity, especially in the arts. Inspirational cropping becomes a wonderful vehicle for encouraging others to explore their understanding of His Kingdom and, in so doing, engaging in a deeper walk with our Lord. Thank you for your obedience to the call. Keep up the good work.
Oh Patter , you outdid yourself on this one! The LO is simply gorgeous with all your detail. The inspiration you give me daily is Heaven sent!
Hugs~

Patter, this is gorgeous. I really can't thank you enough for sharing this with us all. You always seem to say the things I need to hear at the exact time I need it most. ((HUGS))

They are beautiful verses.
Each time I come to visit your site I keep thinking how nice it would be to try out doing pages focusing on the bible / God.
I love the layout of this card. So often I want to thank a speaker, and this one is PERFECT for incorporating the points that made a difference to me as listener. Thank you for a beautiful, inspirational and encouraging site.
