Vera Bradley {Goodness} A Prayer Box

Okay, I love Vera Bradley; however, I must admit I am drawn to the pink fabrics. Well, I got a new mouse pad, and it happens to be a pink Vera Bradley mouse pad. It also came with a pad of paper. Here is what it looks like:

Well, I decided to make a prayer box out of about 3 sheets of the note paper. Gosh I wish they would make scrapbook paper and fabric! Anyway, on the Christian Paper Crafts forum, we have a challenge to make a prayer journal. Well, I decided to make a prayer box with 3x5 cards. I always have trouble with my prayer journals--either I don't leave enough space for the praise or I end up flipping through 15 pages because there are a few prayers still waiting for answers on each page. I have never found the perfect solution. I am hoping this is going to be awesome.

First, I bought a wooden box at Michael's. I can't remember how much it cost because I have had it for a while in my stash. It was very inexpensive though. Then I painted it with white acrylic paint. After painting, I began decorating and covering in Modge Podge. I used a LOT of different products (I will post a product list below). I am disappointed in my pictures of it though. It looks SO cute in person, and ALL of the pinks match. In these pictures, the Vera Bradley paper looks dark (look at the mousepad above to see what the true color is). The Jillibean Soup felt flowers look almost red, and they actually match the pink paper perfectly! And the Stampin' Up! ink looks dreadful. It matches in real life too. Oh well! At least you get the idea anyway.Papers: Paper Trey Ink, Vera Bradley Cupcake Pink
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Ask, Seek, Knock; Our Daily Bread Designs The Cross of Christ
Stamp ink: Memento tuxedo black, SU pink passion
Paints: Making Memories spotlight, LuminArte H20 forest green
Embellishments: Jillibean Soup bean seeds (felt flowers), misc. button, Stickles black diamond, Stickles diamond, Creative Imaginations black felt trim & green felt brads, KI hip chip chipboard (black & white), Doodlebug flowers, Kaisercraft rhinestones, Deluxe Designs chipboard flourish, Glitz frosting (black)

I created four sections in my box--petition, BSF, Scripture, and praise. I will use the "petition" section for most prayer requests, the "BSF" section for BSF prayer requests, "scripture" section for scriptures I love and I want to pray, and then of course "praise" for prayers as they are answered. The 3x5 cards inside will make it easy to have enough room for the request on one side and the praise on the back. Then I can move them around easily in the box. I think this will be much better for me in the long run. I can also keep blank cards with me to jot down requests I get when I am out. Or I can take requests with me to pray. Make sense? I hope you enjoy it, and again sorry for the poor photos. Have a blessed 4th!

And a little funny note: I've never thought about it, but the Swedish word for a box is ask :)

Hey Eva! So nice to "see" you!! :) And how fun that is the Swedish name for box. Awesome!

And Melissa, I believe they are open. I would call first to make sure. :)

And thanks for the nice compliments girls. I spent hours on it yesterday and made a HUGE mess but I am SO glad to have it! Yeah! :)

I am sure I should know this, but what is BSF? Did you use black cardstock to "make" the dividers, or find black index cards? This is very cute, and I just might have to lift this idea for Christmas gifts for those in my small group. Thanks!

Alicia, yes, I used black cardstock to make the dividers. Then I use white 3x5 cards for the actual prayer requests themselves. :)

And BSF is Bible Study Fellowship. If you look under labels here on my blog, and select BSF, you will see more. :) Hope that helps. Blessings,

That's great Patter! I love the bright colors. I've been needing to do something different and I think you found the solution with the prayer box instead of thumbing through a prayer journal. This is much more organized. I think I may incorporate it for our ladies retreat in the fall...hmmm...our theme is JOY but isn't there great joy when prayer has been answered, and there is joy in praise etc. Hmmm.... I'm feeling the joy!!

Patter, this is gorgeous! Wow! Such a fantastic idea too! You know what is SOOOO funny?! I just heard about Vera Bradley from a woman in a local store. I saw her purse which was beautiful and had to ask about it. She told me about Vera Bradley and how she is so excited that she found a store that carried them over here. She says they are real popular over on the East Coast. Too funny that you posted this! Beautiful prayer box girl!

Patter...I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful Prayer Box idea. I am hopeful to make several for family Christmas gifts this holiday season. Until I can make one for myself, I am temporarily using a plastic 3x5 case (purchased in the school supplies section of Target last school year) I followed a similar format for the dividers (Petition, Praise, Scripture and then I also have a divider for E, W, S, H which are the first initials of my husband, myself, and my children); I look forward to my prayer time each morning using my little 3x5 cards and it is completely portable so it will travel with my to Florida next week; so thank you for the idea and for the inspiration; I love seeing your e-mails roll into my inbox..thanks again and God Bless

This is a great idea, Patter! Do you keep all of the prayer requests you get until they are answered one way or another? I would really like to know about this. I tell people that I will pray for a specific need of theirs...let's say fibromyalgia. I end up with so many requests, if I never stop praying for someone's request. Is there a Biblical Scripture that you know about this issue? I hate to stop praying for them, but after a while, I'm sure you know, we could pray all day and not cover everything. I hope you can help me to understand this. Thank you, my friend.

He IS Able,

Traci, I don't always know if there is an answer to prayer, and some are long-term (always ongoing). In those cases, I might pray for them weekly or as the Lord brings them to mind. I have thought about adding another section that I can rotate for the "weekly/monthly" request because as you said we can never cover everything. When I don't use a card anymore I really rely on God's prompting and pray for them then. Does that make sense? Oh, and I know I still need to answer your e-mail. Been busy and not feeling well today. Thanks, and talk to you later sweet friend!
