Scripture Challenge {Week 23}

Week 23 Challenge Word: Truth

Do you ever stretch the truth just a little? How about those little white lies or those half truths? Do you know that all of these are not actually truths at all? God calls them all lies, and they can affect every part of your life. The Bible tells us that God cannot lie. Not that He doesn’t want to lie; He cannot lie!

Titus 1:2 says “a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,” and

Hebrews 6:18 says “God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged.”

Yet John 8:44 tells us that the devil does lie “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

When God makes a promise, He keeps it. When He says something, He means it. We must know the truth of God’s Word. There are false teachers trying to deceive us. Know His word for yourself. Know why you believe it. Speak His truth, and be a good example to those around you (kids, family, friends, co-workers, and strangers alike).

Here are some interesting facts I found when searching on truth on Bible Gateway using the NIV version:

Truth” is used 214 times in the NIV—40 times in the Old Testament and 174 times in the New Testament
I tell you the truth” is used one time in the Old Testament and 78 times in the New Testament.
Spirit of truth” is only used four times in the Bible and those can all be found in the New Testament.
Word of truth” is only used five times in the Bible—once in the Old Testament and four times in the New Testament.
God of truth” is only used twice in the Bible—both in the Old Testament.

For my card this week, I again used the wonderful June kit from Create My Keepsake. The verse I used was:

John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your Word is truth.”
So, I hope you enjoy your week looking at this word and speaking in truth to everyone around you. Be sure to join our discussions at at Create My Keepsake, The Scrapping Spot, Scrapjazz, and Faith Sisters. Until next week! Blessings,

Beautiful card!! Love the bold colours... we should be bold in speaking God's truth, shouldn't we? I'm finding there is nothing like having young kids that make you aware of 'truth telling'. Thanks the challenge.
