Welcome to our Holiday Hip Hop!!!!! I hope you have had fun thus far! You should be joining me from Jennifer's awesome and amazing blog. If not, make sure you hop back to the beginning, the Unity blog. You definitely do not want to miss the hop today because I know there are lots of surprises along the way!
This week, I wanted to share with you three gifts I made for my mother and two of my aunts. We will all be together at Christmas, and I thought this would be the perfect time to present them with these personal journal jars. My dear friend Shanna Vineyard made one for a challenge she hosted. Basically, you present the person with a jar full of questions about themselves. They pull a question every day or once a week and journal about themselves. It is a wonderful history to pass down to children and grandchildren once it is complete. Shanna's jar contained 365 questions. I do not know how many questions my jars have but it is a lot. I took a lot of questions from a spectacular book called "To Our Children's Children" by Bob Greene. This book is FULL of nothing but questions. I am going to use the book to journal my own history. I won't need the jar for myself. The book will work just great. Here is what they look like: Shanna put the following on a tag hanging on the jar. I chose to change a few words and put it on the inside of the book instead.
"This little jar & journal celebrates someone dear—YOU!
If you follow a simple plan, you will find that
before this time next year you will have
a very PERSONAL history finished!
All you need to do is draw out one slip of
paper every day or once a week.
On it you will find a question. Spend a few minutes
and just enjoy remembering. Then paste the
question in your journal or rewrite it at the top
of the page and TELL about it. Don’t worry about
spelling, handwriting, etc. Just tell YOUR story
and remember you are loved!"
The stamps I used for these was the butterfly from the Unity September kit Friendship Love Miracles, and then all of the sentiments were from the Unity Our Life Our Stories kit. I purchased the jars and journals very inexpensively from Wal-Mart, and the papers are Basicy Grey and Creative Imaginations. I did emboss the title and butterfly. They really stand out pretty in person with the embossing. Overall, I kept the journals pretty simple, and I did not put ribbons on the wire binding because I knew they would be opened and used a lot. I hope you enjoy this.
And before you hop on to the next blog, I am offering some blog candy today! Please leave a comment in the comment section, and I will randomly draw a winner on Friday, Dec. 19th. The winner will receive the Unity Becoming Butterfly single!

How cute, I saw the one that Shanna did too, very cool gift. I would need something like that to "help" me tell my story since I'm not much for journaling.

As always your stuff is so unique and fun.
You always come up with the best ideas for gifts. I love reading your blog. Maybe I'll have to get busy and make one for my sister.
That stamp is adorable!
Merry Christmas! I love your blog. And the stamp being given away is an awesome stamp. The journal idea is so terrific. I bought a commercial version for my dad eons ago and he finished about half before he passed away. I typed it up (to make it readable) and added it to a scrapbook for my brother which I just finished. It's still waiting to go out in the mail because we are SNOWED IN! LOL! He is going to go nuts when he sees it!
Hey Patter, beautiful projects this week!
lucky, lucky family members :D. And the patterns here would be great for any occasion too.
Love that journal concept - my daughter and I did a journal swap one year, that went well too. We exchanged the journals on the first of each month, so had an interesting book each at the end of it!
OMGosh!! I LOVE that gift idea!!!! And what a truly beautiful presentation too!! Oh wow!! Thank you so much for sharing such a special and creative idea!!!

Patter, my daughter told me about your site and I love the scripture challenge. I started late, but will catch up next year. I like the idea of your journaling jars. I need to answer all these questions for my grandchildren and just need the inspiration to get going. I think you will have given the "nudge" that's needed with your cute gifts. Thank you for your inspiration to all of us.
What great gifts :)
Beautiful!!!
WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! This would be PERFECT for the Mommys in my family!!!

I have just recently discovered your blog and must say I love it. What a wonderful idea this is for a mother or grandmother. In fact I'm going to see if I can "pull one off" for my mom for Christmas. Thanks for sharing your project with us.

What a creative way to help someone tell their story. I personally need something like this to help me get it all down on paper.
I love your journaling jars!!
Neat idea! I love the sentiment of the stamp. Itis beautiful!
Very cute Blog and enjoy all of the goodies you show!
I've seen the jars before & love this idea!!
Oh Beautiful! It's so nice, your blog, I don't know all of the forums to check out or how this all works. I have enjoyed the stamps I got from Angela. I was going to order 2 over Thanksgiving, we don't have much in the way of Holiday Celebrtions since I became ill. It makes me feel bad for my DH and grown children I know they hate seeing me sick and on the oxygen machine but we do have our love! The best gift of all. Lovely stamp, Verse stamps are my favorite, I'll have to check out the rest when I can get up again, this up 15 min an hour sucks! LOL
Happy Holidays, enjoy your beautiful families and good health!
Love Donna

What a wonderful gift...both for the ladies receiving it now and those who will read the journals in the future. TFS such a great idea!
