Trying My Hand at {Rae's} Style

Some of you may know of Rae Missigman. She is a talented artist, and she has a series on her blog called "15 Minutes of Mixed Media." I love watching these videos. Today as I have had a terrible headache and didn't feel well enough to think on my own, I thought why not recreate a page using her process. It was actually fun, and it made me do some things I would not have normally done. I did change a few minor things because I either liked a different paint color or I didn't have a product she used. Here is the video I watched to recreate on my own. Click here to watch it. And here is how my page turned out.

I did not have the scalloped stencil she used so I hand cut some scallops out of scrap deli paper I had on hand. The colors worked perfectly! I also used the Tim Holtz splatters stencil instead of the triangles she used. I preferred the splatters for my page. And of course I had to add a scripture, sewing, and black splatters along with the date.

What did I learn from doing this?

*That when I don't feel well, this helped me concentrate on something other than my headache!
*That I liked the smaller journal size.
*That I enjoyed the fewer layers.
*That for me, my pages look naked without splatters and sewing.

Thanks Rae for being such an inspiration and taking the time to record the "15 Minutes of Mixed Media" series. Now I encourage each of you to check out her videos. Enjoy!

What a great project! I'm not glad you had a headache, but certainly happy that it led you to your project and sharing the tutorial.

Oh I love your page and the passage you chose. Focussing on that limitless love. I am slowly working out what I want to create for Glory Art and have decided on making a Scripture-Dex and am creating some cards, and perhaps some bookmarks later on. But art journaling always calls to me, so I will probably work some pages in it as well as the year unfolds. I can't remember using any Scripture in my Book of Wisdom journal yet and I need to rectify that! I will definitely re-visit this post for the video and your work. Thanks for sharing it, Aimeslee xoxo

I hope your headache is gone now. Although you followed a tutorial your lovely page was very much your style that I love.
