Organizational {Friday} Glimmer Mist

Okay, so today I thought we would talk about Glimmer Mist after I purchased two colors I already had! Ugh! You would think that would have been impossible because I have less than 10 bottles of Glimmer Mist. Gracious! Anyway, I am determined to not let that happen again so I knew it was time to organize the few colors I have on hand. Let's look at what I did.

Downloadable Chart
Most of you know that I keep a notebook of colors for my stamp ink, Stickles, Shimmerz, Luminarte H20s, etc. Here is a collage of some of my pages:
Well, I still don't know why I had not added my Glimmer Mist colors to this book yet but. . . I guess I thought I had so few colors that I didn't need to do anything with them yet. Wrong! After purchasing colors I already had, I decided to create a file to organize my colors. As I started to put together my file, I ran across a nice file on the Tattered Angels site already created for me! How cool is that? You can find the file here.

I printed the file on cardstock. Then I gently shook each bottle of Glimmer Mist as I was ready to create a "swatch." Then I unscrewed the lid, and used the tube in the bottle to "dot on" a swatch of the mist on the paper. Be careful when "shaking" your Glimmer Mist. You don't want to literally shake it up and down but you want to swirl it instead; otherwise, it can get clogged. Also, don't print on regular printer paper. The paper will be too thin for your swatches. You will want to print on white cardstock. Here you can see a close-up of one of my swatches. It is also easy to tell what you have and don't have. I guess I need that now. LOL!
Also, I have a couple of older colors that I do not think are available anymore. I just wrote the color name at the top of my paper and "dotted" on a swatch.

Storage
Right now because I only have a few bottles, I keep them in my Sticker Stadium. Yes, for those of you that remember this old storage unit, I still use it. They are no longer available but it fits so beautifully on my desk underneath my cubes that I love this thing! My Glimmer Mist is right behind my Making Memories paints.
Once my bottles were in the Sticker Stadium, I noticed that it was hard to see the colors and find the bottle I was looking for. So, I went back, punched 1/2" cardstock circles, and put a "dot swatch" on each lid. I used a Glue Dot to adhere the cardstock to each lid. Now I can easily see the colors down in the Sticker Stadium.
So, if you are going to store your bottles down in a drawer or any other bin, you may want to add a dot to your lids also. It really helps.

If I get many more bottles of Glimmer Mist, I won't be able to keep them in the Sticker Stadium because I am pretty much out of room. In that case, I will probably move them to the top of my Stampin' Things unit and keep them there in color order. Here is what they would look like. Wouldn't it be fun to have the top of this full of Glimmer Mist? :) It will hold 42 bottles of Glimmer Mist (yes, I measured)!! Do they make that many colors? :)
I am sure people have other great Glimmer Mist storage ideas but this is what works for me without buying something new. What do you have laying around that might work for your bottles of Glimmer Mist? Also, you can make your own Glimmer Mist. There are many threads on the web on how to make it. Hmmm, maybe I should put that together for you for a "Tuesday's {Tip}" sometime. :)

A RAK!
Okay, so as you read, I bought two bottles of Glimmer Mist that I already had on hand. I thought I would share the doubles with one lucky blog reader. All you have to do is leave a comment here by tomorrow night (Saturday), 9/18, at 11:59 p.m. Central. Leave a comment about Glimmer Mist--how you use it, store it, favorite color, anything. I will draw a winner on Sunday, 9/19! Here are the two colors I am giving away, and I may throw in another surprise or two. :) I hope you have found this helpful. I will see you with another organizing tip soon. I think I have organized just about everything but will think of something for you. LOL! Have a blessed weekend!

As always, I've learned a wonderful trick from you. I store mine in a long trough that I got from Homegoods...I think it is meant to be a planter but it's a beautiful blue so of course I picked it up. I'm enjoying filling it up. Like you, I do have the problem of having to pull the bottles out to see the colors. Can't wait to pull out that circle punch and get swatching! I never thought of dabbing the swatch...that's why I follow your blog! :)

Love your Organizational Friday posts! Another great tip. I only have 4 bottles of glimmer mist so far and I've been addicted to them lately so they just sit on my desk next to my lazy susan.

Patty - You are amazing! I only have four bottles, just recently being introduced to them at Archivers. Thanks for all your tips and shares!

Glimmer Mist is hard to come by here in NZ so I find myself not having a problem storing my ONE bottle LOL I do love your tips, thank you so much :)

I don't have any Glimmer Mist yet, but I have made my own in the past and absolutely love the look! I look forward to your organizational tips on Fridays as I am in the midst of a major reorganization in my craft room.

What a fantastic idea putting a white circle on the top to identify the color. I think I have a great storage system (see below post) but can't tell the colors, but with you suggestion I can quickly grab the color needed with out pulling each bottle out.

My storage system hangs on my wall. I took 2 wire shelves cubes (target), painted 4 large wooded spools, connected each corner with spool and ribbon to create a box like shape. My bottles slip in and hang on my wall. I have 2 one paints and one for glimmer mist, not only functionable but makes a great wall decor.

I have never used Glimmer Mist. Sounds like it would be such a fun product to play with. I need to purchase me some of these.

Hi. I haven't duplicated GM colors; yet...thankfully. (punches; yes...GM; no). Thanks for the link to the chart. I only have 6 bottles and my fav is Pearl. I use it on a lot of things as it adds a little 'zing'. My bottles are stored in a small drawer on my table.

I look so forward to your organizational Fridays!! This is the first blog I check out on Friday. I am fairly new to this and have not used glimmer mist. I have seen many projects using glimmer mist and they are beautiful. Would love to win these in order to begin a new journey in scrapbooking and paper crafting.

I learned something important - don't shake the Glimmer Mist, swirl it. Doesn't that explain why mine always gets clogged ;) Thanks, Patter for another great tip!

thanks for the tips on making a chart for the colors and labeling the tops of the bottles. I store mine in a metal tin I found at Target in the $1 spot a couple of years ago. It's a rectangle shape and I just set it on top of my ink pad holders that are mounted on my wall.

Hi Patter!
I've learnt so much about glimmer mist, and would love to start collecting all the colors in the range, the two you are giving away would be a great start :)
I've heard you can do some much with the product, I'm excited to learn and thanks for sharing your tips with your readers :)

Bonnie said...

I do not have very many colors of Glimmer mist, yet.... (LOL) right now they are stored with my perfect pearls in a small basket, but if I collect a few more I will defiantely have to seek some new storage ideas, I love the idea of putting the color on the top, would make it easier to just pull the color I am looking for, instead of pulling out every bottle.. Thanks for the tips and ideas.

Oh Patter, a recipe for making Glimmer Mist would be sensational! At present I keep my one bottle of GM in the turn table on my desk.

Like some other readers, I do not yet have any Glimmer Mist, but your descriptions and obvious enjoyment (as well as that of some readers) intrigue me. Perhaps I need to look for some. Thanks for the help.

Hi! I really apppreciate all of your posts, but have gleaned the most helpful ideas from your organizational Fridays. I even made myself a spiral-bound index card notebook to keep track of my inks, markers, glitter glue, etc, so I don't purchase the same things over & over. I just need to remember to carry it with me when I go shopping. :o) I don't own ANY Glimmer Mists, though, so it would be wonderful if my name was chosen for your extras. I would happily start a new category page in my little index card notebook.

I have a wall unit (enclosed) that holds my ribbon, and it has a shelf underneath. The two bottles of mist that I have (different than what you're giving away) fit there perfectly. I'm new to purchasing mist, as I saw it @ Archiver's while on vacation and fell in love with the affect. I love all of your organizational tips--please keep them coming!

I am just exploring the world of glimmer mist. I made my own using one of the great online tutorials...but only two colors so far. Since I have so few, they just sit on my shelf. Eventually, they'll probably be in my three tiered lazy susan type unit.

I love your organization tips!!

Patter, girl, you are way organized. One day, maybe one day I will have a room as organized as yours....sure would be nice :D:D. I have a few bottles of Glimmer Mist and I store them in a photobox. I love that I can just pick up the box and the bottles won't fall al over the place (that happens a lot when you don't have much space ;D;D) I really like your tip about addind that dot with the color to the lid...I sure am taking all of my bottles out as I can never tell which color it really is. Thanks for sharing all of your tips!! Hugs and bessings, Sabrina

Hi Patter, I just recently started following your blog and have to say I love it. I just started using glimmer mists and love them. Seeing I have only a few I store them upright in a draw. I know that will have to change as my colection grows. Thanks for the tips on how you store yours.

One lonely glimmer mist sits on my shelf besides other "sparkly" stuff in bottles.
Organizational friday's keeps me looking thru cabinets and storage for items to use LOL!

I use glimmer mist on everything! lol

I actually only buy white ribbon (most times, linen) & mist to match the color I need.

Thank you, Patter, for another fabulous organizing tip! You have made such an amazing difference in my scraproom! :)

Like you, I only have a few bottles of glimmer mist right now. I took a class from them at the scrapbook mega meet in Novi, MI last May. I think I have 6-7 bottles. Right now I store them in a drawer with my glitter. I love the idea of the cardstock circles with each color on it. I have been wanting to do the same thing with my stickles which I store inverted so could put a disc on the bottom of each bottle. I keep a list of the colors I have for both Stickles and chaljk ink in my purse, because I have been known to buy duplicates too! Thansk for the chance to win.

I store my few bottles in a small paint edger tray along with my Smooch Spritz bottles. My color catcher is stored behind the tray folded up as to save valuable tabletop and crafting space. Love the effect Glimmer Mist gives!!! Thanks for the chance to enter and for all of your organizational tips!

I've been fortunate to take a couple of classes teaching some use of Glimmer Mist, and have purchases a few bottles, but haven't used them at home yet.

of course--I have a duplicate!
I have them stored in a shelf unit hanging on the wall. So I had better get organized or get a new gigabyte MEMORY! Always appreciate your organizational ideas. Thanks

Your swatch idea is so genius! I should so do that! I also really like the glimmer mists displayed in your room, they look so cute on there!

Thanks so much for the chance at these goodies! :)

Thank you for sharing another storage tip. When I was reorganizing my scrap "room" I reread all of your past tips and used many of the ideas, especially your ink color notebooks! I love to use my glimmer mist on flowers. I only have 5 colors so I just keep them on a shelf with all my embossing powders and stickles.

Hi Patter~

Thank you for these great organizational tips you always share with us. You should write a book of tips...(in all of your spare time. LOL I'm sure it would be a big hit with paper crafters!)

I love the idea of putting the color of the Glimmer mist as well as on top of my Twinkling H20 paints that I truly love to use! The problem is I only have 2 glimmer mist bottles...it is easy to keep track of at this time. I love to use them, however. I love to use them to create my own dp for my cards. I love the way you can start with a little for a delicate look and add more for more color! I also use it on fabric. I have the Pearl and the Sherbert colors. I don't use them nearly as often as I wish I did, because I don't want to run out,
(like many homes, we are unemployed still.) I have a cabinet that is open with all things shimmery in it! There is plenty of room for more Glimmer Mist. The cabinet is on wheels and slides out from under my giant (former dining room) table.

Thank you, Patter for your generosity! You are something special! I appreciate the chance to win this exciting prize!

He IS Able!

I too love organization. I have a hole punch that's the exact size of the top of the cap ; 5/8 in. After I spray my swatch, I punch out a hole, and glue the circle on top of cap. I then write on the back of the swatch the colour and hang my swatch with the rest of my samples on a book ring.
