Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 23}

Happy challenge day!!! I sure hope you are enjoying these challenges as much as I am! If you haven't played along with us yet, please feel free to jump in the fun at anytime! We would love to see what you create! This week's challenge is to use a ribbon, a charm, and one other embellishment; however, no flower embellishments unless it is your charm! How's that for a fun challenge? :)

I decided to use this challenge to create a card for someone near and dear to my heart in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) that lost her brother last week. I pray that this card will brighten her day just a bit amidst a very difficult time. For this card, I used Basic Grey papers and Zva Creative pearl flourishes. I also used two ODBD stamp sets--Ask, Seek, Knock, and Scripture Collection 4.
Papers: Bazzill cs, Basic Grey Cappella
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Ask, Seek, Knock; Our Daily Bread Designs Scripture Collection 4
Stamp Ink: SU creamy caramel, Colorbox Fluid Chalk chestnut roan
Embellishments: Ribbon Retreat ribbon, misc. cross charm, sewing machine, Zva Creative pearl flourishes, Spellbinders Labels 2, Paper Trey Ink rustic twine

Tuesday's {Tip} Stick Pins

I don't know about you but I love the look of stick pins on cards and layouts. I have hesitated to use them, however, because of the sharp ends. I have seen some really nice smooth pieces you can put on the ends but I have never been able to find them. Not knowing what they are called probably has something to do with my problem in locating them. LOL!

Well, a few weeks ago while I was in Michael's I saw some really nice clear, silicone earring backs. I thought "Ooh, these might work on my stick pins." So, I bought a package of them along with the regular silver earring backs. I thought sometimes the silver might look nice. I came home, tried them out, and guess what? They work beautifully! I am so excited to have found something to cover the sharp end!! Yeah! Here is a close-up of a card I did a few weeks ago. Can you see the clear, silicone covers?
And I just store them with the silver earring backs in a baby food jar which is then kept in my antique spice unit along with my pins. It works beautifully!
So, next time you are in Michael's pick up some pins and some earring backs, and you will be ready to go!! I hope this has been helpful! Blessings,

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 22}

Most of you know that I love distressing on my creations! Well, this week's ODBD challenge was right up my alley--the challenge is to "Distress it. You can use ink, tearing, or ripping...whatever it takes to give a distressed look somewhere on your creation."

For my distressed creation, I decided to create a 9x9 layout. I have so many photos that I need to scrap, and I truly miss doing scrapbook pages!! For my layout, I used my Making Memories edge distresser to tear up the edges a bit, and then I inked the edges in grey chalk ink. These particular photos are from Harbour Town on Hilton Head Island, SC. I used three ODBD stamp sets on this page. The flowers come from the ODBD set called "The Lord Has Risen." The scripture is from the ODBD set called "Scripture Collection 4," and I used the ODBD set "Fleu de Lis Borders" as a border between the photos. The Zva Creative pearl flourishes also come from the ODBD store. You definitely can't have enough of those flourishes on hand!! :) Papers: Basic Grey Olivia, Bazzill cs
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Scripture Collection 4, Our Daily Bread Designs The Lord Has Risen, Our Daily Bread Designs Fleur de Lis Borders
Stamp Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk charcoal
Embellishments: Basic Grey Kioshi chip sticker, sewing machine, Martha Stewart lace tag, KaiserCraft pearls, Zva Creative pearl flourishes, Derwent watercolor pencils, misc. ribbon

{Faith Journaling} Challenge #36

For the past couple of weeks, we have been journaling about churches. I want to continue that topic for one more week. This week, journal about:

**What church were you married in? Describe it. Why did you chose it? If not married in a church, describe the location.

Jeremiah 29:6 "Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease."

Tuesday's {Tip} Uses for Rolodex Files

Back in mid-June, someone asked for Rolodex ideas. What could she do with a Rolodex that she got for $2.99 at Goodwill? Well, here is the response I gave, and I thought my readers might love these ideas too!

**Keep favorite scriptures or quotes like this (a Rolodex instead of ATC)
**Keep a stamp inventory like this.
**Keep a list of journaling prompts (pull one & have fun). You can see some here and here.
**Keep a file of birthdays, anniversaries, and special dates.
**Create mini albums (kids, family, vacations, "about me," etc.)
**Create a color challenge or inspiration file like this one.
**Create a "year in photos" album (a photo a week with journaling on the back).
**If you like to read, keep a reading log (a card per book). You can even print a tiny "avatar" size picture of the book cover for fun!
**Print sketches and keep your sketches in the Rolodex.

So, if you have a Rolodex and don't know what to do with it, hopefully my ideas will help you out a bit. These would also make great Christmas gifts too! You can also use a 7Gypsies Revolving holder for these ideas too. You can still find these at Your ATC Store.

I hope you find this helpful and fun! Now start looking for those bargain Rolodex files and get started! Be sure to list your ideas in the comment section too if you have them! I am sure everyone would love to see more ideas. Have a blessed Tuesday everyone!

{Scripture Challenge 2} Challenge Word #15, Fear Not

Challenge Word #15: Fear Not

As a child, I was very scared of the dark. I remember sitting at the top of the stairs at our home in England crying my eyes out as I waited for my sister to come to bed. Yes, we shared a room. She was a night owl; I was not. But I would not go down that dark hallway to that dark bedroom alone. I did not know the Lord then, and I was completely paralyzed by my fear. Fast forward many years, and on occasion I still find myself “halt” in the darkness but now I have One that I cling to as I get that “fearful startle.” I cling to my precious Lord.

One night after Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) I was cleaning up, and I had to put something back in the sanctuary of the church. The lights had already been turned off, and I didn’t know where the switch was. So, I took my very tiny flashlight that I keep in my bag and armed myself with prayer and hymns. God was right there beside me. I knew He was. It was the most awesome feeling. I wasn’t paralyzed as I had been as a pre-teen. I made it through the dark with Him holding me up and giving me strength and peace. Every time I find myself in a fearful situation, I remember that He clearly tells us to “fear not.” He is there with us. Isaiah 43:1 says “But now, this is what the LORD says—He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.'" And Lamentations 3:56-58 says "You heard my plea: Do not close your ears to my cry for relief. You came near when I called you, and you said, 'Do not fear.'"

Who do you cling to when you are fearful? Do you do as the scripture says and “fear not,” or do you allow Satan to run with that fear and paralyze you? God is waiting for you to hold onto Him and not let go! We are to have a fear of the Lord (a reverence or respect for Him) but we are not to live in fear or be fearful of things. Health and marriage issues are scary. Every day things such a bugs and darkness can be scary. Raising children in today’s world is scary; however, we have a God that is Sovereign and in control of all things. We have a God that loves us, protects us, and gives us a peace that only comes from Him. Are you clinging to Him and allowing Him to protect you and give you that peace? Isaiah 41:10 says “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Let Him strengthen you and help you in all things! Ask Him; He will!!!

The scripture I chose for this study was perfect for me. There were so many passages that spoke to me but this one was perfect for my fear of the dark:

Psalm 91:4-6He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday."

And for my page, I used the Memory Box Soaring Bird stamp. It was perfect for this passage as I thought of Him covering me with His feathers and taking refuge under His wings. I also chose the colors black and white for "light and dark."
Papers: Creative Imaginations pp, Paper Trey Ink off-white cs, misc. black cs
Stamp: Memory Box Soaring Bird C1366
Stamp Ink: Memento tuxedo black, SU basic black, Ranger clear ep
Embellishments: Cuttlebug Victoria embossing folder, Ribbon Retreat satin ribbon, Hero Arts pearls, Zva Creative pearl flourish, Pink Paislee chipboard button, misc. cross charm, DMC floss, Rose Moka letter stickers, sewing machine

When sharing your page for this challenge be sure to use Keyword SCRC210 when posting in galleries. Also, please leave a link here using Inlinkz! I pray that the next time you experience that "fearful startle" that you will cling to Him, not let go, and then give Him all of the glory! To see all of our previous lessons, please visit this post here. I will be back with another study on August 1st. See you then! Blessings,

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 21}

Do you like to color? I love to color. The night before I was married, my sister and I sat at my grandmother's kitchen counter and colored in coloring books with Crayons! How fun!!! And for others of you that love to color like me, this week's ODBD Challenge is for you! This week you need to use and image you can color and color it.

For my image, I chose flowers. I love flowers though if they are left under my care, they will die! LOL! And since pink is my favorite color, I thought it only appropriate to color them in shades of pink. I used the ODBD set called Grow in Grace. I also used the awesome Zva Creative pearl flourishes also sold in the ODBD store. Love these pearls! The papers are a mix of October Afternoon, Bazzill, and Paper Trey Ink. :) Papers: Bazzill brown cs, Paper Trey Ink white cs, October Afternoon Fly a Kite
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Grow in Grace
Stamp Ink: Memento bamboo leaves and new sprout
Embellishments: Ellen Hutson lace; Copic RV10, G40, and G82; Distress Stickles worn lipstick; Basic Grey button; Zva Creative pearl flourishes; Kaiser Craft pearls; sewing machine

Organizational {Friday} Your Questions Answered

Last week I shared my new craft room with you. Thank you all for your kind comments. Many of you had questions so I am going to take today to answer them all here for you. Some of the questions are from comments left here, and some are from the SCS gallery. Let's start off with my absolute favorite question:

Rose said...
oh i am so thrilled you are all set up and loving you new area :) you always give the best organization tips and i thank you :) ok i have just one question........... how do you reach your stamps on top of the drawers?? i know your "closer to the ground" lol sorry couldn't help wondering ;)enjoy your new room and looking forward to seeing all the goodies you create.
JULY 9, 2010 9:28 AM

First, Rose, your question made my entire family crack up! I LOVE the "closer to the ground" comment! I love being short, and you gave us quite the chuckle! Well, to answer your question--because I am so short, I have many stools around the house. To reach the stamps on top of my Scrap 'n Cube, I use my wonderful, pink step stool from Target! It sits under my desk, and I use it as a foot rest when I am sitting in my chair and as a step stool when I need to get those higher items. Isn't it cute? :)
And now on to more of your great questions:

It's beautiful! How big is that room?

My room is about 12x13. It doesn't have any doors but has two different entries--one off of the foyer and one off the hall to the kitchen. I wasn't sure it was going to work with all of this furniture but it does, thankfully!

Amazing! I do have a question though. How do you remember what you have? Things like papers and alterables and such? Or is it a treasure hunt each time and you work with what you find? I have a lot of supplies and it is the one thing I have struggled with. I end up buying more and not using what I have.
JULY 9, 2010 7:13 AM

Michelle, this is such a great question. So many people feel that if it is "out of site" that they won't use it. Well, because I label everything, it is easy for me to find what I want. All of my Scrap 'n Cube drawers, my antique spice cabinet, etc., all have labels on them. I change the labels as I move items around or change what's in the drawers. For instance, I have a much larger Copic marker stash now so they are no longer in my drawers. So, I removed that tag and put something else in that drawer. I buy the labels from Wal-Mart or Office Depot depending on where I am shopping when I need more. :) Some of my labels include:

I love your room! I was wondering where you got the box of cubbies that sits on your desk next to the laptop. I love it!! JULY 9, 2010 10:31 PM

Penny and Buffy, that is an antique spice cabinet my parent's found for me as they were antiquing. You can see more about the cabinet here and here. It is definitely one of my favorite pieces in my room.

I always enjoy your Organizational Fridays, and today was a real treat! Your office is absolutely amazing! I know what your mean about sitting back and looking at all your stuff! Sometimes, when I am in a rut, I will just sit in my room and just look around, sometimes I find something to inspire me! But, I would never leave your room! What are all those wonderful drawers above your craft desk? They are like the hutch part of your desk. Are they a part of your desk? I love them! Thanks for the tour! I enjoyed it and always get great ideas from you! I love those vintage patterns in frames!
JULY 9, 2010 9:51 AM

Jessica, my entire unit (drawers and desk) are from Scrap 'n Cube. I have had this unit for over 5 years, and it still looks brand new! I also love that it can be moved if we move and when I change rooms as I did with this current room "re-do." It is solid wood and will be an heirloom piece. The company can help you put together any combination that works for you. You can also buy one cube at a time as you can afford them. It does not have to be purchased as an entire unit. I suggest you look at their site, and Cindy (the owner) is more than happy to help you personally if you give her a call! :)

That is beautiful! I have a question. DO you scrapbook for a living?I don't, but want a room like this one! It is truly inspiring.

Thank you! Well, I do design for several manufacturers, and it brings in enough $$ and free product to support my habit but definitely not enough to support a family. LOL! I also have been paper crafting for 13 years so I have a lot of stash I have had for a long time. I haven't purchased a piece of Bazzill cardstock in probably 2-3 years. :) I am also a HUGE bargain shopper. It is like a game for me. So things I do purchase, I try to get as cheap as possible.

our very organized!! I would appreciate the link for your paper storage rack. I've been looking for a better way to store & access my paper. Also, on the other side of your paper rack it appears you have some type of marker storage rack?? Could you tell us more...

ladybugg61 said... Beautiful "haven" to enjoy so. Absolutely amazing room, saw all the pics on your blog! Just curious ... where did you get the paper rack from? Enjoy your newly decorated space in good health! :-)

The paper storage rack I purchased from a scrapbook store that was going out of business. I was lucky and got it for $50. I believe retail is $150. It is sold by Display Dynamics, and you can see it here.

And my marker storage rack is from Studio 3 Solutions. You can see my entire post about that unit
here. I also know of a new marker unit being developed, and hopefully I will be able to reveal it here soon! You will not be disappointed!

What a wonderful room. Two questions..Is your husband a saint? Is it always cleaned up or do you get it messed up after your projects?
JULY 9, 2010 10:44 PM

Well, my husband is definitely amazing. He works so very hard, and we both enjoy our hobbies and our cars--two of our passions. He LOVES to golf, and I love for him to go every weekend if he can. It's what helps him "de-stress." He also knows crafting of all sorts (paper crafting, sewing, crochet, and cross stitch) are what help me "de-stress" so he enjoys seeing me relax that way. We help each other. It's a beautiful partnership. I am blessed to say we celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary in March of this year. :)

And it is definitely not clean all of the time. When I work on a project, it gets very messy as I go along. However, I always clean up between projects, and I only work on one project at a time. I can't stand not cleaning between projects. I can't work that way. LOL!

You've done a wonderful job arranging and organizing!I have a question about the unit with drawers that you found at Hobby Lobby: how long ago did you find that? I've never seen it before....oh, and do you remember which HL you found it at?
JULY 11, 2010 12:00 PM

I have four Hobby Lobby's within 10 minutes of me. Only one of them carried this piece. I found it in March I think. Feel free to e-mail me, and I can tell you the location where I found it. The other three Hobby Lobby's in my area did not have this particular piece!

Tuesday's {Tip} Recycle Those Tiny Flowers!

Oh my, I ran across this amazing and easy tutorial when I was reading a thread on 2Peas. You can take your zillions of tiny Primas or other flowers you have and make them into these roses:
For the yellow rose, I used 4 tiny Primas. For the white rose, I used 3 Primas. It's super, super easy! Those two roses probably took me 5 minutes to make, and it was my first and quick attempt. I probably will use leaves behind the roses instead of the punched flowers I used here in the picture but there are endless possibilities! I also want to try it with some larger flowers, punched flowers, die cut flowers, etc. As I said, the possibilities are endless! See Nicole Aspinall's tutorial here if you want to learn how to make these. It's super easy, and you won't be disappointed! Enjoy!

My {Sunday Afternoon} Project!

Sewing my curtains for my new craft room this past week really put me in to mood to sew. I love to sew, and I never do it anymore. So, this afternoon I decided to waste my afternoon!!! Did I have DT work to do? Yes! Did I have things to do around the house? Yes! Did I feel a little bit guilty? Yes, just a bit! But, I did it anyway!! I took the afternoon to make this:
I have stashes of patterns and fabric waiting to be used so I decided to make this little bag for my new Kindle. The fabric is Moda Hunky Dory, and the pattern I used is the Smarty Girl Book Bag pattern by Heather Bailey. I just love it! I think my husband thought I was nuts but I thought maybe y'all might like to see it! It is roomy enough to hold my Kindle and other items. I think this will be a fun bag to carry around the rest of the summer! Thanks for letting me share, and have a joyous Sunday evening everyone!

Organizational {Friday} Finally My Room Reveal!

Well, it has been a few months in coming but I have finallly gotten my new room done. If you missed my "moving post," feel free to look here. So today, I am sharing photos--lots of them! I don't have a wide-angle lens so it has been a bit hard to get photos but hopefully you will enjoy it. My room basically has three sections--the craft area, the sewing area, and my office area. As you read through, I have included links to older posts where I share specifics about a particular storage item. Click on the link to look at that piece in greater detail. Now, grab a cup of your favorite beverage, and let's get started!

The Craft Area
This is part of my craft area. The first photo shows my desk by Scrap 'n Cube, my paper rack, and my Stampin' Things unit with my inks, Stickles, and ink refill bottles. It also shows my Univenture binders and Sizzix boxes where I store my unmounted stamps and my Memory Box stamps. These pieces below are next to my Stampin' Things unit. You can probably see by comparing the photo above with this one where these pieces are in relation to the other furniture. In the closed baskets I store my old foam stamps, more fabric, and other things that I don't need to acccess very often. The basket on top is my "in basket." I throw things in there that come in the mail or that belong in my office but I don't have time to put away at the moment. It's a great and handy basket!
This wonderful piece of furniture replaces my toy bin that I had in my old space. I found this at Hobby Lobby, and I absolutely love it! It sits at the end of my office desk facing the window. I keep my Big Shot on top, and it is SO easy to do my die cutting here!
The four smaller drawers contain my 6x6 paper pads and alterable items. These drawers are the perfect size for my paper pads. Should I share that three of the four drawers contain paper? Eeeek! :)
Then one of larger drawers contains chipboard alphabets and other smaller embellishments. The other large drawer contains my larger tools--Quickutz Squeeze, Bind-it-All, crimper, etc.
And here you can see a part of my new Basic Grey Blush curtains. It was VERY hard to take photos of my window because of the glare. You will see a dreadful picture below when you see my office space! My window measures 72" across and 85" high so I get very nice light in my room. And next, my magazine basket! This basket matches the one that sits on top of my closed baskets with the fabric and foam stamps. It is larger but the same style. I keep my crafty magazines in here. Yes, you can probably see I have many that haven't been looked at yet. I am just swamped all of the time, and maybe someday I will get through them all.
I do throw my magazines out when I am done. I used to tear out the ideas I loved, and I kept them in a binder but I found I wasn't going back to reference those ideas. There are always new and fun ideas on the web and in newer magazines so I gave up on the reference binder.

The Sewing Area

Basically in this part of my room I have a dresser that I got years ago from Bombay Co. Goodness, I wish they were still in business. I love their furniture. Anyway, I have the dresser and my sewing cabinet. The dresser contains photos and fabric! And believe me it is full! Then as you can see, I have my Clip-it Up on my sewing cabinet. I was going to keep my cabinet closed because it looks so nice closed; however, then I don't sew on my creations as much. I love having my machine out so I can use it quickly anytime I want now. Love that!

On the wall I have 5 sewing patterns from 1949. I have Basic Grey Blush fabric behind each pattern, and this is the fabric that my curtains are made out of too! Rebekah Williams shared the sewing pattern idea on her blog a year or so ago, and I loved it so I knew I wanted to do that in my room. I also have a cross stitch pattern I completed in 1991. Who would have known when I stitched it that it would go so perfectly in my room! Yeah!I also keep some of my idea books and sewing books on top of the dresser. I have some other idea books in other parts of the house. They just wouldn't all fit in my room but I can't bear to part with them! The Office
This dreadful picture shows "the office side" of my room. Sorry for the glare from the window. I had a terrible time with this photo thus this is the only photo of this part of the room. Anyway, you can see the Hobby Lobby drawer unit at the end of my desk by the window. Believe it or not, there is room for me to stand over there. :)
My office desk faces the craft area. I love looking at all of the colors from my papers, Copics, inks, etc., as I sit at my desk. So joyful to look at!

Well, I hope you have enjoyed my little tour. If you have specific questions about anything, feel free to ask in the comment section. If there are a lot of questions, I will do another post; otherwise, I will just answer individually back in the comment section. :) And remember to see all of my organizational posts, please see the link list here.

**Update 7/16/10: I have posted a "question/answer" post. You can see it here. I hope you find it helpful also! Thanks everyone!

Have a blessed weekend everyone!
