Organizational {Friday} Washi Tape

Back in November, Roben-Marie posted here how she had found some vintage wooden spools at a flea market, and she decided to use them for her washi tape. You can see her post here. Well, I thought was an awesome idea but I took her idea and ran a bit further with it. Let's look in detail at what I did.

First, I was able to find spools/bobbins on both etsy and ebay by searching on "vintage wooden spools bobbins." You want to be careful though when searching as there is a great variation in price! Some people charge way too much for sure. One set I got was 6 spools for $10.50 and free shipping. I thought that was a great price so I tried to find more spools comparable to that cost point.

Next, you will want to find spools that have at least a 1.25" bottom. I did get some that have a 7/8" bottom, and they do not work as well. I will show you that shortly. Here are my spools. The spool with the metal ring around the bottom on the far right is probably the one you want to avoid unless you don't mind making modifications like I did below.

You can see here (in the center) how much small the base is on that particular spool. The top is also very tiny, and I like the top to be wider so I can easily label each spool. I will share that below also.

The Spools with Washi
Now onto the "yummy" part of the post. Here is how my washi tape looks on the spools.

Oh, how I love this. Each spool contains one color family, and as you can see each spool has a label at the top of the spool. Let's look at the labels next.

Labels
As I was purchasing yet more supplies for my precious parrots, Kiwi and Sugar, I noticed the store was now selling tiny corks. Kiwi and Sugar LOVE to chew on cork. I purchased these new tiny corks and after they arrived, I discovered that they fit in the top of the spools perfectly! So, I topped each spool off with a cork, and I hung a key tag on each spool showing the color family.

I was going to write the color family on the label but a small piece of washi turned out to be much cuter.

The Problem Spool
Not only does the smaller "problem spool" have a small base, it also has a tiny opening at the top so the cork would not fit for a label. I had to cut the cork, and the tag just barely hangs on. Not my favorite but it works.

Now onto how I fixed the small base problem. I traced a roll of washi tape onto a piece of cardboard. I then cut it out, cut a hole in the center, and put it on the spool.

This now holds the washi tape very well, and the cardboard is hidden by the rolls of tape. Perfect!

I hope you have enjoyed my post for your today! And as always, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate you! Have a blessed weekend!
