Today's post comes as an update and apology. First, my apologies for not getting the Scripture Challenge posted last Sunday. There has been a lot going on here, and I physically and mentally could just not get it done. Please forgive me. Now a little bit about what has been going on.
If you remember this layout below, it shares a bit of the things we have been dealing with this year. Well, things have really been hard this month and lots of things have happened in just the past 17 days.
Kody Boy
First, we had to make the terrible decision to put down our Kody Boy on Saturday, October 4th. He was only 3 years old and had epilepsy. On October 2nd, he had a seizure that lasted six minutes, and at that point the vet and our family knew it was time to make a decision. Since August 2013 we have been trying to get his seizures under control but were never able to. He had been on many different meds that he took 5x each day, he had been to the ER vet countless times, and we did all we could for our precious boy. We are thankful he is no longer suffering but the decision was so difficult especially since he was only 3 years old. Rest in peace our Kody Boy.
Surgery Scheduled
Then one of our daughters has been dealing with a disc herniation since July. A second MRI on October 7th revealed that it has gotten worse. Since October 7th, we have had countless hours and days at various doctor's offices. And we found out Wednesday of this week that our daughter will have back surgery within the next couple of weeks. This surgery is usually 85% effective but in her case they are only giving her a 50% chance of success. Our choices are to leave her "as is" and not do surgery or give this a try. She currently has a handicap tag and a wheelchair because she cannot walk far at all. Leaving her "as is" was not an option. If she has worsened this much in just 3 months, where will she be by January without surgery? Prayers for a successful surgery, outcome, and recovery would be much appreciated. We are looking at a surgery date of either 10/30 or 11/4. We are waiting to hear from the neurosurgeon's office.
Celebrations
Then during this time, my parents celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends in Ohio. We could not attend because of my daughter's back issues and many doctor's appointments. It was so hard to miss such an amazing milestone in their lives. Here they are as a young couple in their first year of marriage. Dad was career Air Force as a fighter pilot, and Mom was by his side through it all raising the family while he was in Vietnam and through many TDYs, moves, and you name it. My parents are a great inspiration to me, and we love them so much. Happy 50th Mom and Dad!!
But through all of this we trust that God is the author and perfector of our faith. We use these times to grow and glorify Him. He has the plan, and we completely trust that.
Hebrews 12:1a-2a "Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith."
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord. 'They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'"
With Him we will not grow weary or lose heart (Hebrews 12:3). Thank you all for your prayers and understanding during this time. Joyfully in Christ,

Praying for you and your family. You actually endear yourself to me by missing an occasional deadline goal, Patter. Life intervenes, and though the scrapping community loves you, we all have priorities and choices to make. My heart goes out to you in all these concerns. Love and prayers, jennifer in OH.
I really enjoy everything you share on your blog. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through the trials of this life. You are a true beacon of God's love and power and an inspiration. Debbie in TX1w
Lifted up your daughter and you in prayer. You are such a witness of His grace in your weaknesses and in your strengths. Thank you for sharing your life, it makes a difference!

Praying for you and your family now, Patter. Blessings,
Debbie
Patter.. just prayed for your daughter and all of you as you face yet another trial, and I will continue to pray for the Drs. involved, for peace of mind for you all as you wait, and for a successful outcome. So sorry about your precious dog as well! It's always hard to make that decision, but sometimes our hearts just tell us it's the right time. He is no longer suffering.
I too have been dealing with the "stuff" of life. I'm so wanting to get together with you but with intense PT and other stuff going on I don't seem to be finding extra time either. When this surgery is all behind you and you have a few minutes... give me a call or emails and we just need to set a date!!!!
Continuing in prayer and sending hugs,
Grace
Life is so overwhelming sometimes. Thankfully, God He does not see things as we do--he never gets overwhelmed! Praying for your sweet daughter, and hoping the surgery will be successful. Your dog was so beautiful. Such a big loss to your family. Thank you for sharing your life with others. You are such an encouragement and inspiration to others.

You are dealing with a lot right now! I'm so sorry for your loss. Kody was a beautiful dog!
I can't imagine how worried you must be about your daughter! I have been following your updates and will continue to hope for a positive outcome.
so sorry about your dog and other troubles, I hope things look up soon.
So very sorry to hear the sad news about your young dog and your daughter's impending surgery. Praying that the surgery will be successful.
Life stops for no one and even with good intentions-there are things out of our control.
I'm so sorry about your furbaby! We had to put one of ours down earlier this year. Toughest decision ever. HUGS!
Will be praying about your daughter's surgery. She's young & hopefully will heal quickly.
I know you're proud of your parents. Marriage is tough and you don't hear of many marriages making it 50 yrs! That's a tremendous accomplishment!!
Have a great weekend. Take care of yourself & your family!!
Love in Christ!!!

My goodness, that is a lot to take. I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. We had to make the same decision (different reasons) about 2 months ago and it is heartbreaking. I really hope your daughter's surgery goes well and is successful. And happy anniversary to your parents!! What an inspiration.
I am so sorry about Kody Boy. My heart is heavy for you and your family. I truly believe he is running through beautiful fields in heaven barking happily and free from seizures. He probably runs to sweet Jesus often for a belly tickle and a rub behind the ears.
I am a mom who has had to hand over my babies for surgery and know the pain and fear that accompanies it. I am praying for strength and courage. May Jesus guide the surgeons hand and the surgery be a success. God created your baby and He lives her like crazy.
I'm so sorry about Kody Boy. Such a sad, hard decision for you to make. Also, I'm praying for your daughter's surgery. I asked to Lord to bless the surgeons hands, give your daughter and your family peace about it, and to bring healing to her back. I'm also asking Him to surround you with His comfort and strength.
I'm sad you missed the celebration of your parents milestone party. Congratulations to them.
Dorothy
Patter,
Please know I am praying for you and your family as you go through all this. I know it must have been awful to make the decision for Kody, but he was blessed to have have had such a wonderful home and people who loved him enough to let him go when the time came.
I will be offering up my own sufferings for your daughter's successful surgery. I pray she will find a miraculous outcome and be able to walk easily and pain-free again!
Many hugs and prayers,
Maureen
