Oooh, I think y'all are going to love this week's ODBD challenge! You actually get to pick between three of top challenges from this year--"Dies and Punches," "Texture It," or "Sparkle ."
Well, I chose the "texture it" challenge. I LOVE texture. I added texture with my hand-dyed seam binding, the brad, and my sewing machine. I always seem to use my Making Memories distressing tool for texture so I stayed away from it this time. LOL! The ODBD stamp set I used is called Peace & Joy. And to get my brad the exact color I wanted, I used my Copic marker to color the "bling." Works perfectly!
Papers: Basic Grey Jovial, Paper Trey Ink cs
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Peace & Joy
Stamp Ink: VersaMark, Ranger clear ep, Tim Holtz Distress Ink aged mahogany
Embellishments: Tim Holtz bracket die, hand-dyed seam binding, Copic YG17 for brad, Zva Creative brad, sewing machine

Organizational {Friday} Stamp Dies with Alignment Guides!
Have you seen the new, amazing dies Kelley is offering at Our Daily Bread Designs? If not, you need to scurry right on over (look here)! Right now there are 6 die sets available but I bet this will only be the beginning! :) These dies go with the stamp sets, and they cut out your stamped image perfectly! No more getting cramped hands from cutting things out yourself! Yeah! Well, of course with anything new comes a challenge--how should these dies and alignment guides be stored and organized? I think I have come up with a solution that works for me, and I wanted to share it with you today!
For those of you that have seen and/or use the Univenture binders for your stamp storage, you are just going to use the same binders! The dies and alignment guides are stored right in with the stamps! How easy is that? You can see my Univenture stamp storage along with my Rolodex inventory here. Let's look at how I store the dies and guides in the binders.
First you need to grab some Scotch Removable Double Coated Tape. This is the same tape I use to hold the die down when I run it through my Big Shot. For instructions on how to use these dies, look at the video tutorial here. Now that you have your tape, you will also want some Glue Dots or Removeable Glue Dots. I am currently using the regular Glue Dots because I am out of the Removeable ones. :)
Since I am keeping my dies and alignment guides in with the stamp set, I pulled that particular binder from my shelf. I then attach a piece of the Scotch Tape directly to the back, inside cover of my Univenture binder. The removeable tape holds the alignment guides perfectly! Just press down your alignment guide on top of the tape, and it will stay there until you need to use it. They also lift up easily and stick back down wonderfully after you have used them!
Now the tape is not strong enough for the dies. The dies are too heavy. So, that is where the Glue Dots come in. I just use ONE dot per die. The Glue Dots are strong enough to hold the die yet since I just use one "dot," the die also comes off easily when I need to use it. And because the Univenture binders are plastic, it's easy to remove the Glue Dot if you need to for any reason! Here is how my dies and alignment guides look at the back of my binder:
The guides are kind of hard to see since they are clear. They are just below the dies. :) I do not recommend attaching the dies to the back of the pages in your Univenture binders. I think over time, the dies would cut into the stamps on the next page. I am certain you wouldn't want that to happen. If the dies are stored on the back, inside cover of your binder, they will not touch any stamps. Now, granted, you won't have a lot of room for many dies or alignment guides in each binder; however, you could arrange your pages so that there are only one or two die sets in a binder. You can certainly use this same system by storing the dies in CD or DVD cases! Again those cases are plastic, and would hold the dies and guides perfectly using this same method!
Once I have dies for a matching stamp set I have, I also update my Rolodex inventory noting that I have the dies to go along with the stamp set. The stamp/die inventory card looks like this:
See how I just added "+ dies" to my card? Now I know I have the dies to that stamp set and the binder where I can find both the stamps and dies. Super easy! Well, I hope you enjoyed today's storage solution! Have a blessed Friday, and let me know if you have questions!

{Scripture Challenge 2} Challenge Word #22, Serve
Challenge Word #22: Serve
For those of you that have been following my blog for a while, you may remember that we looked at this word back in 2008. If you missed that study on "serve," please see my post here. I hope you will read it because the truths there remain the same, and they are important. Well, during our pastor's sermon last week, I really felt God wanted us to look at this word again. There is certainly more that can be learned, and I want to share the new thoughts God has brought to me.
Do you feel like you must have an extra-ordinary talent or be able to teach to serve God? Do you feel you were not meant to serve? Do you think you don't have any ability to serve? Well, God's word clearly tells us that He has created each of us to serve Him for His purpose and for His glory. 1 Peter 4:9-11 says "Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen." Each one of us has abilities that are to be used for Him. Are you using your abilities for your self-satisfaction or are you serving as God calls and allowing others see Christ in you?
One lady in Bible Study Fellowship shared how she has served her church by washing and ironing the linens each week. Have you ever looked at the altar in your church and wondered when/how the linens are washed and ironed? Have you ever thought that could be a way of serving Him? It is! There is also a lady in my church that is a hairdresser. She felt it was just a "job" and a means of supporting herself. Well, God turned that job into a service for Him. For the past two years, she has gone on a mission trip with our youth to El Salvador, South America, where she cuts the hair of the children in the orphanage. She said at first she felt isolated from the rest of the group from our church. She wasn't out there repairing buildings, doing construction, or anything "big." But guess, what? She was doing something big. She was serving those children and shining the light of Christ as she cut their hair. These precious children have never gotten a "real" haircut. The first year, it was the girls that were excited to have their hair done. The second year, even the boys were lined up waiting with excitment to get their hair cut. She now views her "job" as a special service to Him. It is no longer a job but a joy and blessing. What could God be calling you to do that you think is just an "ordinary job." Could it be washing linens? Could it be washing the sheets and burp cloths in the nursery each week? How about driving an elderly church member to service each week? Oh, there are so many "ordinary" opportunities out there that God will use for His glory! Ask Him how you can serve Him this week and in the months ahead! How exciting it will be to see where He leads you!
For my page this week, I used two ODBD stamps--the Brocade Background (stamped in VersaMark behind the Scripture) and the Cross from the Living Bread set also stamped behind the Scripture. I also did not have flowers the correct color so I used 3 different colors of distress inks to color each flower. Definitely an easy way to get the color you need. The verse I used was: 1 Samuel 12:24 "But be sure to fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you."
Papers: Webster's Pages WonderFall, Paper Trey Ink kraft cs
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Brocade Background, Our Daily Bread Designs The Living Bread
Stamp Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink tea dye, faded jeans, and tumbled glass; VersaMark
Embellishments: Hero Arts flowers, sewing machine, hand-dyed seam binding, Basic Grey brads, KaiserCraft pearls, hemp from Hobby Lobby
How are you serving in the name of Christ? I pray you will look at the "ordinary" things in your life and pray about where God might have you serve Him with those gifts. When sharing your page for this challenge be sure to use Keyword SCRC210 when posting in galleries. Also, please leave a link to your creation here using Inlinkz! Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 34}
Happy Saturday! Doing anything fun today? My hubby is on his way back from India so in a just a few hours we will be enjoying having him home!!!!!! Yeah! But for you, how about a little crafting challenge? The ODBD Challenge Team has a fun one for you today--use kraft and black on your creation. You can use one other color plus one to two neutrals but that is it.
Now my biggest challenge was deciding on the one color I wanted to add to my creation. After contemplating it for a while, I saw these gorgeous green Zva Creative pearl flourishes that I had just gotten from ODBD, and I immediately knew that green would be the winning "extra color." I also colored a bit of green on the water pump and pail too. The ODBD stamp set is called "Never Thirst."
Papers: Canson watercolor paper, Basic Grey Cappella, Paper Trey Ink cs
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Never Thirst
Stamp Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink black soot and old paper, VersaFine onyx black
Embellishments: Zva Creative pearls, sewing machine, Derwent watercolor pencil #50, misc. ribbon

Organizational {Friday} Distress Inks & Sponges Revisited
In the process of changing things as I put away my new ink pads, I realized that with the distress inks I prefer using the blending foam that goes with the Ink Blending Tool instead of my other sponges.

So, I changed up my sponge storage a bit to make it easier to access and keep the sponges with the inks. Instead of keeping them in my plastic box (shown below), I now keep each blending foam piece attached to the stamp pad itself. Here is where I used to keep my tool and blending foam pieces:
Now instead I attached a small piece of Velcro (the hook side) to the back of each stamp pad. Then the foam piece attaches right to the Velcro. Here you can see three ink pads with the foam attached, and three ink pads with the Velcro where the foam will attach.
Then I still label my ink pads the same and still store them in my favorite Stampin' Things units--the Elite unit and the Topper!
I still LOVE the other sponges for my other ink pads, and I like how I have them organized. So, they will stay organized "as is." If you missed that organizational post, please look here.
I hope this has been helpful. Don't be afraid to change something as your needs change. I know I seem to do it quite often. LOL! Have a blessed Friday, and thanks for stopping by!

{Faith Journaling} Challenge #48
First, let me apologize for missing my post last week. I have several weeks done ahead but forgot to set it from "draft" to "publish." I guess my wild week finally took a toll. Please forgive me!! I hope some of you were able to take the time off and catch up a bit on the 47 previous questions! :) And now moving on to this week's question:
**Looking at the fruit of the spirit in Galatians 5:22-26, what characteristic do you want God to develop further in you at this time?
Galatians 5:22-26 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other."

Tuesday's {Tip} Using Your Colored Pencils
A couple of Friday's ago, I posted how I store my colored pencils along with my Excel swatch file. If you missed that post, please look here! :)
Today I wanted to share some of my favorite tutorials on using your colored pencils. I hope you find them helpful. Here are some great ones:
Blended Pencils by Lydia Fiedler
Coloring and Shading by Just V
Pencil Shading over Markers by Dina
Also, I know I have a few e-mails from people still needing the Excel colored pencil swatch file. It was a WILD week last week, and one of my daughter's may need sinus surgery. Please pray that her 4th round of antibiotics does the trick and we can avoid surgery. Thus because of our week and things going on here, I am behind. I think that is the story of my life lately. LOL! Anyway, I will get caught up and e-mails sent as I work through my piles. Please forgive me.
**For those of you requesting the Excel file, please remember this is for personal use only. It is not to be distributed. Please direct people to this blog post if they would like the file also. Thanks for understanding. :)
Thanks everyone, and enjoy the tutorials. Have a blessed Tuesday!

Tuesday's {Tips} Vintage Images
Do you like vintage images? How about vintage images you can print for free? I found a site with lots of images, and I thought you might enjoy it. It's called Magic Moonlight Studio, and they have many, many free vintage images for you. Here is a small sampling:
There is a search feature on the bottom right-hand side so you might be able to find what you are looking for that way. Or you can always scroll and look at the great images on the site! I know there are many other sites that offer vintage images but this one seemed to offer more than anywhere else I have seen on the web. I hope you enjoy it. Have a blessed Tuesday!

{Scripture Challenge 2} Challenge Word #21, First
Challenge Word #21: First
When you hear the word “first,” what do you think of? Do you think of a crowd of people and being first in line? Do you think of climbing the corporate ladder to be in that number one position? Do you think of competitive sports or music and being first in the league or first chair? Is it all about you, your child, or grandchild? Or does God come first in your life? Is He the first thing you think of when you wake up, when you make a decision, when you speak, etc.? 1 Kings 22:5 says “. . .First seek the counsel of the Lord.” In all things, we need to seek Him first—in our decisions, choices, purchases, use of our time, etc.
As we seek Him, He alone is to be first and above all. As followers of Christ, we are to humble ourselves so that people see Him and not us. If we are trying to be first in all we do or teaching our children that being first is most important, than the focus is not on Christ but on ourselves. Yes, we may reap earthly rewards and get praise from others but is that what we really want? John 12:42-43 says “Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in Him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue, for they loved praise from men more than praise from God.” Do you hide your faith at work, around certain friends, etc., because you are afraid of what they may think or that you may be “put out” of the group? John 16:18 says “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” As I tell my children, "if you are the only one standing up for a certain decision, if it is what God says is right, then stand there alone! That's what's right and where He wants you!"
Instead of reaping earthly rewards, how about reaping those eternal rewards! Do you want to know that God is pleased with you and that one day you will hear “Well done, good and faithful servant!” Matthew 25:21 says “His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!’” We may be in last place for choosing to follow Jesus but in eternity, we will share in His rewards and happiness! And I don't know about you but I would rather be in last place with Jesus than out front alone!
For my page this week, I used the 1 Kings 22:5 and John 16:18 verses (both noted above). These verses makes me realize I need to seek Him first in all things and not to worry about what the world thinks. I also used Sketch #145 from Sketch Inspiration.
Papers: Memory Box meadow cs, Basic Grey Pyrus
Stamps: Tim Holtz mini cirque alpha
Stamp Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink vintage photo
Embellishments: Hero Arts flowers, Stickles cinnamon, KaiserCraft pearls, misc. trim, sewing machine
So, this week, will you think of Him first thing as your feet hit the ground as you get out of bed? Will you focus on Him and put Him first in all things in your life? When sharing your page for this challenge be sure to use Keyword SCRC210 when posting in galleries. Also, please leave a link to your creation here using Inlinkz! To see all of our previous lessons, please visit this post here. I will be back with another study on October 24th. Have a blessed week ahead!

Our Daily Bread Designs {Challenge 32}
Welcome back to another challenge week! It feels great to be back with another challenge for you! This week's challenge is Leaf It--Use leaves on your creation, it can be a part of your patterned paper, your image, your charms, just so it has leaves on it (gold leafing does not count as leaves unless it is a leaf itself).
I created this "leafy" card for my parent's as a thank you for a very precious gift they surprised my husband and I with a few weeks ago. This card doesn't even begin to express the "thanks" I truly wanted to give them but I did poured my heart into this card!! I got my finger stuck under the needle in my sewing machine and bled everywhere. Thank goodness it didn't get on the card! LOL! Let's see, I have been sewing for about 33 years, and I have never done that before. I guess this truly is a special card! :) Anyway, I used the ODBD set "The Lord Has Risen" since it has beautiful leaves on the image. Then I also used part of a sentiment from the ODBD "The Living Bread" set. To color my image, I used Copics and colored pencils. :)
Papers: X-Press It, 7Gypsies Conservatory, Paper Trey Ink cs
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs The Lord Has Risen, Our Daily Bread Designs The Living Bread
Stamp Ink: Memento bamboo leaves, Ranger clear ep
Embellishments: Copic Y21, Y26, G40; Spellbinders Large Labels; PrismaColor kelp green & ginger root; Cuttlebug Victoria embossing folder; Stickles frosted lace; Zva Creative brad and pearl flourish, satin ribbon from Stamp Simply, sewing machine

Organizational {Friday} Colored Pencils
This week I finally wanted to share what I have done with my colored pencils. If you remember this post from 2008, you see how I store my pencil sharpener and how I used to keep my pencils. Yes, I still hang my pencil sharpener like that off of my bucket but I use a different bucket since my collection has grown. If you have a smaller collection, my original bucket would work great for you! Over time, I have found that I have been having a terrible time finding what I want to use so I created an inventory/swatch sheet to help. Let's look at what I did.
The Swatches & File
To get all of the colored pencil names, I copied a list from Dick Blick and pasted it into Microsoft Excel. I then created two worksheets--one for my Derwent watercolor pencils and one for my Prisma colored pencils. Here is the file for you to download:
I hope this works. You can see the two separate worksheet names at the bottom of the image. Just click on the worksheet, and you should be able to download it. Google docs seemed to mess up my formatting a bit but you should be able to fix it as you desire. :) Also, please remember this is for your personal use. Please do not distribute this file. You can certainly link others to this post but please don't distribute the file itself. I truly appreciate it!
**Well, it seems Google Docs won't allow it to download. This is so frustrating Blogger doesn't have that feature like Typepad. So, if you can't grab this file, please e-mail me, and I will send it to you. I may post it on Splitcoaststampers later too so you can grab it from there. I will update when I do. Sorry!
After creating my file, I then sat down and colored in my swatches. It was super easy and fast to do! And since I have created this, guess what? I am able to find the colors I want to use SO much faster and easier. Now who would have thought? LOL! Here are what my color sheets look like (Derwent is the first photo; Primacolor is the second photo):
Now it is also so much easier to see what colors I don't have if I want to buy any individually. And if you notice in the first picture (the Derwent watercolor pencils), the right hand side of the swatch looks a bit different (see below). That's because I actually used my waterbrush to wet the swatch since sometimes the color looks different once it is wet. You can see in the first swatch how the yellow gets lighter as water is added to it. This way I have both wet and dry samples on my swatch sheet. :)
These swatch sheets are half sheets since I store all of my color swatches in one small binder. However, I have been unable to find the smaller page protectors lately, and I use them a LOT. I found a source online, and I was very pleased with their prices and service. I ordered them from Keep Filing. They not only had the 5 1/2"x8 1/2" page protectors I was looking for but they also have 12"x12" and many other sizes. The quality is very nice! I was definitely very pleased.
My Colored Pencil Bucket
Okay, most of you know that baby pink is my absolute favorite color. So, when I needed to invest in a new bucket, baby pink was my criteria! LOL! Upon searching, I found that A Muse had the exact bucket I wanted and needed!!! They come in many colors but of course I chose baby pink! You can see their assortment of buckets starting here. Just scroll down a bit. :)
Now the way I organize this bucket is by brand and then by color hue. Since I do not have a lot of the Derwent watercolor pencils, they are all together in one part of the bucket (on the left). The Prismacolor pencils are separated into the other two parts of the bucket with the yellows, oranges, greens, etc., being on the right, and the blues, purples, browns, etc., being in the middle.
This is working really well for me. I just wish I would have made swatch sheets sooner. I should know by now that I need swatches for everything. LOL! I hope this has been helpful! Enjoy, and get those colored pencils out and color! :) Blessings,

It's a VERY Special ODBD Birthday!!!!
Today is Kelley's Birthday! If you don't know who Kelley is, you are truly missing a blessing. Kelley is the owner of Our Daily Bread Designs. She is amazing to design for and her love for our Lord shines through the beautiful stamps she releases each month!! The sticks in the bread basket (ODBD DT and CT) have put together a little blog hop just for her and for our ODBD followers!
So to celebrate Kelley, we have all created a card using older Our Daily Bread Designs sets and are showing them here. Each of us will then be sending our cards to Kelley to use for her boards in the ODBD booth. Being under the lights and packed and unpacked week after week takes it's toll on the card samples she has, so it's good to update from time to time. So watch out Kelley, you are getting a whole new batch of "show cards." :)
For my card I decided to use the older ODBD set called "Lord is my Shepherd. " I love this set, and after I created my card, I thought "Oooh, what an adorable image for welcoming a new baby too! I used my watercolor pencils to color my image. The sky is colored blue but it's hard to see in the photos.
Papers: Memory Box kraft nc, Basic Grey Origins, watercolor paper
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Lord is my Shepherd
