Scripture Challenge {Week 48}

Week 48 Challenge Word: Give

Last week we talked about giving thanks. This week the Lord wants us to look at giving during this season of celebration and giving. What has God given you? A family? A home? Food? Good health? Salvation through His precious Son? God gives to us so that we can share with others.

John 10:28 “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.”
Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”

Max Lucado says “Though God has given us many blessings and rights, we should be willing to give them up if it would help someone to know Christ. Why not give up your right for free time or watching a movie and use the time to share with a new Christian a lesson you have learned recently.”

What a simple but most important way to give!!! God will use you to meet the needs of others. It is impossible for us to out-give God so give abundantly!

There are so many ways to give not just by giving money. As I looked through almost 1,000 verses on Biblegateway, I noticed these words as I read: “Giving strength, knowledge, understanding, peace, rest, thanks, comfort, aid, shelter, attention, love, instruction, approval, praise, forgiveness, etc.” The list could go on and on. These are amazing ways our precious Lord gives to us but also ways we can give to others.

And God reminded me yesterday not to give up on our children! Being a parent is definitely a roller coaster especially when you have children with ongoing medical problems or special needs. He has a plan for them. They were born in His image just as you and I were. He wants us to give them the love, the praise, the support, etc., especially when times are hard. Give them more of you and more of God; don’t give up! Galatians 6:9 says “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

For my card this week, I used Basic Grey Urban Prairie papers and several Unity stamps. The butterfly stamp is from the Friendship. Love. Miracles. set, and the frame on the back is from the Our Life Our Stories set. And the small stickers are from 7Gypsies and were included in the November kit from Create My Keepsake. They were just perfect!The verses I used were:
Matthew 5:42 "Give to the one who asks you and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."
Matthew 10:8b "Freely you have received, freely give."

I pray that you will take these weeks ahead and watch for areas where you can give—maybe a listening ear to a child or teen, a hug to a friend that is suffering, a meal to a sick neighbor, etc. Watch for the opportunities God brings to you to give. Blessings,

Scripture Challenge {Week 47}

Week 47 Challenge Word: Thankful

Times right now are rough. The economy is bad, savings accounts are dwindling, jobs are being lost, etc. During the midst of all of this and more, Christians have a special relationship with God. No matter how rough things are or how bad they look, no one can ever take that relationship away from you. Once you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, you are His. Have you thanked Him for that? Do you recognize what He does for you each day? Do you thank Him for those things? Watch for them. He is working in your life each and every day. He loves you!

God takes care of every situation no matter how difficult. And we can always thank Him for the outcome because we can trust that He will get us through whatever the difficulty may be. If you recognize what He has done for you in the past, then you can trust that He will be there for you the same way right now and in the future. Thank Him! He also puts people in our paths to help us, guide us, and lift us up. Have you thanked them?

How about being thankful for what you have? Are you, or are you always longing for more or something different? If we choose NOT to be thankful, then we will become bitter and angry. Doesn’t being thankful sound better than being bitter and angry?

I have mentioned before the idea of keeping a thankful journal. If you haven’t started one yet, this week would be a great week to do that. There are many ways to do a thankful journal but a very easy idea is to list 5 things that you are thankful for each day! Journal about it or just keep a list. Make it easy on yourself but keep a list. When times are rough, you can look back on those daily lists and see how He has continued to provide for you each and every day! A.W. Tozer says “In trying to count our many blessings, the difficulty is not to find things to count, but to find the time to enumerate them all.”

In searching on Biblegateway for our word this week, I actually searched on several words. Here is what I searched on and what I found in the NIV version:
**Thankful (4 verses)
**Thankfulness (3 verses)
**Thanks (80 verses)
**Thanksgiving (32 verses)
**Give thanks to the Lord (25 verses)

So interesting to look at that and all of the various scriptures associated with each of them! And as I close today’s study, I wanted you to know what I came across just last night as I was putting the finishing touches on this topic. I ran across Joyce’s blog, and on there she had a quote:

Wow, I just love that, and I love how the Lord confirmed out word yet again this week. And be sure to scroll down on Joyce’s blog and look at her card she did for Week 45 (Cross). It is just beautiful! Thank you Lord for using Joyce as you have this week!

For my card, I used the beautiful scalloped paper from Crate Paper. This was part of the November kit from Create My Keepsake. I also used four different Unity stamps from the following sets: Circle of Thanks, Flirty Flowers, Our Life Our Stories. Definitely perfect stamps for this word. The scripture I chose was:
1 Thessalonians 5:18 "Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

I hope that you will spend this week of Thanksgiving looking at what the Lord has done for you and thanking Him and those around you. Have a blessed, joyous, and thankful week!

Scripture Challenge {Week 45}

Week 45 Challenge Word: Cross

I must admit I had trouble looking at this word this week. I shed many, many tears. I know these things. I know what Jesus has done for me but to truly, truly focus on this word this week was completely overwhelming. His love for me and for you is incomprehensible. I pray that you will meditate on this word this week and really look at what He has done for you. I am citing several scripture references this week too because I think it is so important that you see the proof from His True Word and not just from me. I highly encourage you to look up these passages. If you are pressed for time, go to Biblegateway. You can highlight and copy the references I give and look them up quickly on Biblegateway. You will be so blessed in looking at these. This post truly could be very long but I will try to keep it short and to the point.

As I studied, I read a bit from Max Lucado as I always love to do. Here is what I found from his book “He Chose the Nails.”

“Between His hand and the wood there was a list: our mistakes, our lusts and lies and greedy moments. A list of our sins. The list God has made, however, cannot be read. The mistakes are covered. The sins are hidden. Those at the top are hidden by His hand; those down the list are covered by His blood . . . What kept Him from resisting? He knew the price of those sins was death. He knew the source of those sins was you, and since He couldn’t bear the thought of eternity without you, He chose the nails. Jesus Himself chose the nails.”

Jesus was not a victim. He willingly gave up His life and His spirit on the Cross for you and for me. See Matthew 27:50-54, John 19:39-30, 2 Corinthians 5:21. His work on the Cross demands a response. Even the temple and the earth responded to Jesus’ death. Look at Matthew 27:51. And did you notice in that passage that the curtain was torn in two from the top to the bottom? It was also as thick as a man’s hand!! Only God could do such a thing! Please don’t let the world steal your focus. Focus on Him and what He has done for you!

Have you accepted His gift of salvation? If you have accepted His gift, then as a believer you are to take up your Cross daily and follow Him. Not weekly or monthly but daily! See Luke 9:23. As a believer are you living for Him? How are you sharing in your churches and in your community? Focus on Him. It is not about this life!

And if you have not accepted His gift of salvation, will you do that today? Don't delay coming to Him by putting others or things first. I encourage you to make that commitment, come to Him, and fully follow Him each day. Please e-mail me if you have questions about your salvation. I would love to hear from you.

For my card this week, I used the amazing November kit again from Create My Keepsake. On the front of my card, I used the beautiful cross from the Flourished Christian Symbols set from Our Daily Bread Designs. On the back I used the Cross of Christ set since it had Hebrews 12:2 which was the scripture I had already chosen for today.
Hebrews 12:2a "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the Cross. . ."

I hope that you will take up your Cross daily this week and follow Him! Blessings to each of you!

For my layout this week, I used Sketch 29 (TTS29) from my sketch blog, Triple the Sketch. This is a 9x9 layout, and I have been waiting for the perfect TIME to scrap these pictures. Pun intended. :) Unity's Tic Toc Clock stamp was perfect for these pictures. It is such a great stamp and can be used in so many ways! For my card, I used the Splitcoaststampers SC200 sketch along with Unity's newest release Neighborhood of Simplicity. This stamp has three houses on it so it was perfect to break up for this particular sketch. I used my Copics to color in the houses and trees. I didn't want a lot of color so I only used two markers. I wanted just enough color to blend with the amazing Collage Press papers. I also used a sentiment from the Birds of a Feather set. Hip Hop {Thursday}

Wow, can you believe this is Week 10 of Hip Hop {Thursday}? How awesome! I hope you are joining me from Sarah's blog. If not, please be sure to hop back to the beginning: The Unity Blog! And if you are new to Hip Hop {Thursday's}, welcome! We are so glad you are joining us!

Today, I have two layouts for you! I really miss working on my scrappy pages. And since joining the Creative Memories DT in September, I really am having fun with my layouts. So, today, I bring you two that I did this past weekend!

For my first layout, I think I challenged myself to see how many different Unity stamps I could use. Ha! I used FIVE Unity stamps on this layout: Tulip Duo single, Scalloped Journal single, My Biggest Wish single, a flower from the Spring Has Sprung kit, and the butterfly from the Cute as a Bug kit. Whew! Isn't it fun that Unity stamps can all work together so wonderfully! It seems every kit can go with another! Love that! For a list of supplies that I used on this layout, be sure to look here. On my second layout, I used the Unity Belly Ruler single and the Unity Around the Dot stamp from the Thanks to You kit. I also used the amazing October kit from Create My Keepsake! Scripture Challenge {Week 42}

Week 42 Challenge Word: Serve

Last week we talked about how service helps us to trust in the Lord, and it humbles us. Well, what exactly is service? Webster’s says it is “to do duties for; give service to; aid; assist; help; to give obedience and reverent honor to God; the serving of God as through good works, prayer, etc.”

What gifts has God given you? Has He asked you to use those gifts for His purpose? What has been your response? Do you question God or come up with excuses why you cannot serve? God is with us and enables us in the service He calls us to.

Moses questioned God when God called him to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. Look at Exodus 3:11-12 “But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’ And God said, ‘I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.’" God tells us He will be with us when He calls us! God uses us just as we are. We will never be perfect or completely ready for a task. We are to obey and depend on Him.

Our time of service never ends either. Now I don’t want that to be a discouragement. It should be an encouragement! Just think, the Lord can always use you! He has a purpose for you! How very exciting! There is no retirement. Exodus 7:7 tells us that “Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.” This was the first of many meetings with Pharaoh. Can you imagine beginning such a huge work at 80 years old? In our humanness, we would not be able to do that but with God, we certainly can! And Moses served with God’s divine enabling, and he did not die until he was 120 years old! Deuteronomy 34:7 says “Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone.” How amazing is that!

Even Jesus came to serve! Mark 10:45 says “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Jesus came to serve! He even washed His disciples feet to set an example for us! Read John 13:1-17. What an amazing picture!

God has created us to serve Him as evidence of our faith. What will you give up to serve Him? Where is He calling you?

For my card this week, I used the fun kit from Create My Keepsake again. I just LOVE this kit! In fact, I just finished a layout for Unity Stamp Co. using this same kit. Lisa can sure put some amazing products together. :) Anyway, here is my card:
Aren't the month/day/year/time papers perfect for serving? I also cut the felt flower from the kit and turned it into two hearts: one for the front of the card and one for the back. I want to remember that we need to love and enjoy our service to Him not make it a task we check off on a list. The scriptures I chose were many but only two would fit. They are:

1 Samuel 12:24 "But be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart."
Romans 15:17 "Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God."

Remember, serving God is all about Him not about us. Enjoy, and listen to where He may be calling you to serve. Blessings for a joyous week ahead!

A Mid-Week Challenge

Okay everyone, I have posted a fun recycling challenge on Create My Keepsake! My challenge for you is to recycle some scrappy packaging and use it for gift tags. You will have a bunch of fun tags to either give to someone in your precious little package, or you will have your own tags ready to use at a moments notice!

I used a Bo Bunny package that has literally been sitting on my desk for months. I knew I would use it for something but I just didn't know what. Well, this challenge is perfect for it! I wanted to make Christmas gift tags to have on hand. So, I altered the packaging, and then I used my Quickutz to cut out some fun tags. I then stamped "to" and "from" on each tag with the Unity Bitty Christmas tag stamps, and I actually got my eyelets out and used those too!

It's Hip Hop Thursday, & I've Got 2 RAKs!!!

Welcome to our 5th week of Hip Hoppin'. I hope you are getting some fun, creative ideas each week. I also hope that you are seeing some great things to put on your wish lists for Christmas, birthday, anniversary, heck, every holiday! You get the idea. :) And if you have just come from Linsey's blog, I am sure you are already have seen some great inspiration along the way! If you haven't come from Linsey's blog, you will want to go back to the Unity blog to start your official "hop."

For my first creation this week, I used the Splitcoaststampers Sketch SC192 and the Unity August KOM Remember Happiness. I love this kit. I stamped the flower on black Bazzill then colored it in with my Prisma colored pencils. I have got to find a better black cardstock for stamping! I love Paper Trey papers but they don't make black! If you know of a great, heavy, smooth black cardstock, please post away in the comment section! Anyway, I also used the fun September kit from Create My Keepsake. I love all of the Pink Paislee goodies in this kit. Yum! For a list of products that I used for this card, look here.
Next, I created a masculine card. I don't create masculine things very often since I am surrounded by girls. Well, except for my precious husband and our three male dogs. :) Anyway, I used the Unity Lily Pad Playland set for this card. The 'enjoy' sentiment comes from the Unity Birds of a Feather set. I used Diamond Glaze, Stickles, and Pop Glue Dots for a little added fun on the card. If you want to see a complete list of products I used, click here.

{2} Layouts & a Tag!

Wow, I can't believe how much scrappy time I have had lately. I am loving it!! I sure hope it doesn't let up because I am really enjoying my creative time so much! I wanted to share with you what I worked on this weekend. First, I created a layout for our Monday Muse challenge at Create My Keepsake. The challenge is to "go with the flow and accent water photos with wavy lines & elements." You can find the challenge here, and anyone can join in! We would LOVE to see your creation! And notice how I used the Unity stamp on the popsicle stick. :) I thought the popsicle stick was quite appropriate since my poor daughter was freezing.
Then I created a layout for a sketch challenge in the Unity forum. You can find the sketch challenge here, and we would love for you to join us there too if you would like! This is a layout about my daughter having to switch from playing bassoon to oboe. She has been so heartbroken, and this picture was taken the afternoon before we had to return her bassoon. Poor thing! Time will heal!
And lastly, I created a birthday tag. I love, love, love making tags! I think I like them more than cards. I always cover a jumbo playing card or a flash card to make the tag more sturdy. 3 in One!

Okay, here is a layout that accomplishes three fun things! Yes, this busy woman must multi-task her scrapping so this worked perfectly this week! This layout incorporates the amazing June kit from Create My Keepsake. It also uses this week's sketch from Triple the Sketch, and I used a cool Unity stamp from the June kit of the Month on this layout! Now that's what I call a multi-tasked layout! Ha! This layout is from my "garage crash" back in February. For those of you that missed the story, you can read about it here. And yes, it did cost $500 to replace that darn side mirror! Altered Binder

Today I altered a small 3-ring binder as part of a challenge using Unity Stamps. I also used the May kit from Create My Keepsake. Lisa's kits are so packed. I still have tons of product left and I have done many things with this particular kit already. Anyway, I am going to use this binder to index all of my stamps and my Copic markers. This will be a great way to see what I have. I hope you like it.

Scripture Challenge {Week 22}

Week 22 Challenge Word: Time

Okay, so I imagine most of us can say we never have enough time in our day to do what we would like. I am sure many of us would love more scrappy/crafting time, time to read a fictional book, time to just lounge at the pool, or whatever. Well, what about God? What does He think about how you use your time each day? How much of your time does He get? Does He get what time is left over or do you plan your time around Him?

It seems it is so easy to let the world steal our focus and our time each day? There are so many things demanding our attention each day—our kids, husbands, homes, chores, school, practices, computers, etc., etc., etc. I am sure that each of our lists are very long. However we need to remember that it is worth our time to spend time with Him (in His Word, in prayer, in daily application). We need time away with God each day that is still and focused. We not only need some time, we need chunks of time. He will then guide us and give us the strength and help us to do what He wants us to do with our time each day. Protect that time with Him. Resist answering the telephone or answering the door. Spend time with Him. Think about investing your time each day in things that will last through eternity.

Max Lucado says “If we are not careful with our time, we will allow others to fill it up for us. There will be no time for God. Approach your day in a new way. How much time do you spend driving, working, or eating? What time is wasted? Replace wasted time with an activity that has value in the Kingdom of God.” Trim those time wasters and you will actually add minutes and hours to your day!

For my card this week, I got to use the amazing new June kit from Create My Keepsake. Now the clock was not in the kit but how could I not put a clock on this week’s card? :) Anyway, the verses I chose are some of my favorites:

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8—"There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace."

Ecclesiastes 3:11—"He has made everything beautiful in its time. . ."

One Last Card!

Well, I just had to do one more card this weekend using the Create My Keepsake kit and the stamp set from Unity Stamp Co. I stamped the flourish and then embossed it. I also stamped the flowers then cut them out. After cutting them out, I bent each petal slightly to give them dimension. These stamps are so versatile! Love them for sure! Thanks for looking! :)

Two Cards Done!

Yeah! I actually whipped out two cards today! I had to use my new crocheted butterfly that I made this morning, and I also couldn't wait to use the Unity Stamp Co. kit that I won! And of course, the amazing Create My Keepsake May kit was prefect for all of these goodies! For the first card, I used two stamps from the Flower Parade kit along with my little butterfly I made. Then for the second card, I used three different stamps from the stamp kit. I love this kit and how you can change the look of it by the stamp ink color and paper choices. This is one versatile kit! Another Altered Notebook

Okay, I am loving these little notebooks! And I needed one for all of my sketches for my new Triple the Sketch blog. The Big Announcement!

Well, most of you saw several weeks ago that I was asked to be the Faith Coordinator at Create My Keepsake. Well, this week Lisa announced the entire new Design Team. I am so excited to be working with these amazing scrappers and to be the Faith Coordinator leading the Scripture Challenge! What an amazing opportunity! Congrats to all of the girls on the team, and thank you Lisa! It's going to be fun!

Christmas Joy & Coming Soon!

First, I wanted to tell you about a few things that will be coming in 2008. As I have continued to clean out magazines (an ongoing but rewarding task), I have come across so many awesome ideas and tips. So beginning January 1st, I will be posting Tuesday's {Tip}. I hope you will enjoy it and that it will be a nice addition to Organizational {Friday}. So be looking for that on January 1st.

Next I know I don't need to remind most of you that on January 7th we will begin our Scripture Challenge! I am so excited. And I hope a few certain people that I know of are continuing to work on other projects so they don't focus on that calendar. Ha!!! You know who you are. Where's that smilie when I need it? Anyway, I wanted to tell everyone that many people have asked if it is too late to sign up for the Scripture Challenge. It certainly is not. I would love people to join us anytime during 2008!!!!! So, keep coming! Keep sending me those e-mails with your name and gallery link so I can add you to the participant list. If you need a gallery, you can create one at Create My Keepsake or Faith Sisters or both!!!! We will also have separate discussion forums on both sites too! We would love to have you.

What a Week!

My week has been filled with scrappy excitement this week. First Cards wants to publish a card that I just created this past weekend using the awesome December kit from Inspire Me Card Kits! It will be in the May 2008 issue. Be sure to watch for it. Then I have been asked to be on the design team at Create My Keepsake as their Faith Coordinator. The 2008 Scripture Challenge will be hosted there now also, and I will be using their awesome kits for my challenge cards each week. I am more than excited! God kept telling me that He was going to do awesome things with this challenge, and each day it just gets better and better! Faith Sisters Challenge Layouts

Here are a couple of layouts I have done for my DT work at Faith Sisters. These are part of the challenges we have each and every week! The first challenge was to scrap something I am thankful for. My layout is about how thankful I am to be chosen as mom to my precious identical triplet girls. My journaling says "I am thankful for your laughs, your precious smiles, and your individual personalities. But most of all, I am thankful that I have been chosen to be your mom!" This particular layout won Layout of the Day today at Create My Keepsake. I am SO excited.

This second challenge was to scrap about the Bible. My journaling on this layout shares some things I have learned about the Bible over the years. My journaling says "Self-communication of God. Collection of 66 books. Holy Bible. God's revelation of Himself to us! God's love letter to us. Word of God. Communication of the sovereign grace of one God."
