Journaling {Bible} Isaiah 40:8

For those of you that have been in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), you may remember how awesome it was when BSF began the study of Isaiah. I still have my notes from that study in 2010-11. In fact, I have all of my notes since I started BSF in 1997. Anyway, I received the Dina Wakley Scribbly Flowers stamp set the other day, and I knew I wanted to use it in my Bible. I searched on the keyword 'flower' and came across one of my favorite scriptures in Isaiah which is:

Isaiah 40:8 "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever."

So, I searched my BSF notebook to see the notes I took on Isaiah 40, and I came across this Biblical principle that I decided to put here in my journaling Bible highlighting Isaiah 40:8. 

"God's grace allows us to apply His truth so we can experience transformed lives."

Are you experiencing a transformed life as you study His word? That's what it's all about, and oh it's so very exciting. I know I much prefer the woman I am today than the woman I was 20+ years ago. Do I still have a long way to go? Oh my, yes, but He continues to show me and grow me as I study His word. Praise God for His word and His amazing grace!

Art {Journaling} Romans 8:18-22

It's art journaling time again. You are probably wondering why I am posting another page so soon. Well, you know, once I get the paints out, I just can't put them away. I have been painting since the art journaling page I did on Thursday, and I have really been enjoying using my new 3x5 Gelli Plate. If you missed Thursday's post, click here. Anyway, I have been painting and crocheting, and really just trying to enjoy. I haven't really done that in a while because of my daughter's back surgery.

Anyway, our other two girls that are away at college have had a really hard semester. This semester has been harder than their very first semester in college. There have been a lot of trials. I have been so proud of them because they have stood up for what is right and what God would have them do. They have suffered but finally got some amazing news on Friday afternoon. 

So, for my page, I chose a principle that was shared in Bible Study Fellowship based on Romans 8:18-22. The principle says "Painful suffering is temporary but the delights of glory will last forever." I shared this with my girls on Friday. They have suffered but it was temporary, and it is all for God's glory.  In that we have our hope!

Painted Journal and Bookmark

Well, for those of you that know me, you know I have been in Bible Study Fellowship since 1997. You also know that I make a new notebook each year for my study notes. I have an amazing bookshelf full of wonderful notes from all of these classes since 1997. Since classes start this week, I wanted to share my 2014-2015 notebook with you along with a matching bookmark.

This year, I am using a Moleskine Soft Cover Squared Notebook. These have become my favorite notebooks. You can find them here on amazon. Tuesday's {Tip} Sew A Bible Cover

As Bible Study Fellowship kicks off next week, I wanted to make a new Bible cover. I decided to carry a different Bible this year. Seems I am always switching things around. I wonder if I get bored easily. LOL! :) Anyway, I used this pattern and adjusted it to create my own unique Bible cover. Here is how my cover turned out:

I purchased the fabric from Hobby Lobby. I also sprayed it with Scotch Guard after I finished all of the sewing. I have found in the past that the covers get too dirty if I don't protect them. 

So, pick up some fun fabric, and create your own Bible cover. Blessings,

Blue Fern Studios August Sketch and my {BSF Notebook}

How can it be August already? I can't believe two of our girls head to college in just two short weeks. I think I may flood not only our town but everything in between! Anyway, as I think of them going off to school, it's also time that I begin thinking about Bible Study Fellowship. Leaders start back with a meeting in a few weeks, so I needed to get my BSF notebook made. What better way to do that then use the new Blue Fern Studios August Sketch Challenge! I saw one or two of you play along in July! So fun! I hope that more of you will join in! My Creation

So, as I mentioned above, I used this sketch to create my BSF notebook for 2013-14. I used extra paper pads I had and created this notebook using my Cinch tool. I used the Blue Fern Studios Garden Window chipboard. I painted it and then stamped on it. I also put a page from a Bible encyclopedia that contained some verses from Matthew in the window. It was perfect for our upcoming study of Matthew. Lastly, I splattered black paint on the book once all of my embellishments were on the front.

Mixed Media Journal—So Much Fun!

I am taking a study on the book of Ephesians at our church this summer. I knew I wanted to make a journal for my study notes, so yesterday I had fun trying something new. I wanted to make a mixed media journal with lots of lumpy embellishments, and so that's what I did. Here is how it turned out:

Now, this is a very different style for me but I really enjoyed making it, and I know I will enjoy using it!

To make my journal, I first tore out all of the empty pages from my old BSF notebooks. I make a notebook each year but I never use all of the paper in each one. So, I recycled these papers to use for the inside of my new handmade journal. I really have a lot of papers in her but it's hard to tell from this photo. I will get to use the journal for quite a while!

Next, I found some chipboard pieces for the front and back covers. I covered them with tissue paper, and then I punched my holes in the covers and papers using my WRMK Cinch. Then I got started on the fun part—the cover! I began by layering burlap, lace, metal pieces, Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces (see the supply list above for all pieces used), etc. Here is how it looked after adhering my pieces with gel medium:

Then I covered most of the cover in gesso. I did not want to cover all of the tissue paper so I did not put gesso on the corners.

Next, I began misting. I used Lindy's Stamp Gang mists and just had fun. To complete the journal, I added one more piece of Blue Fern Studios chipboard the "Believe" title from the Spiritual Blessings chipboard set. I misted it separately in the brighter pink so that it would stand out a bit.

Maya Road Trim on a New Bible Cover

Aging eyes! Ugh! My eye sight is getting so bad that I have a terrible time reading my regular print Bibles. I have several Bibles in many different versions as I use them for study. Well, now I cannot use most of them because they are just too hard to read even with my bifocals. I do have a congenital eye problem which I think is making my issue worse. Anyway, I decided to pull out an old NIV Thinline Large Print Bible that I use for teaching. I don't usually use it for study but it is very portable and easy to read. I took it to church yesterday as I needed to be able to read it. LOL! I think I am going to start using this as my portable Bible, and I will have to buy some new large print study Bibles. I am going to pray about where God would have my "old" Bibles go as I don't think I can use them anymore.

Anyway, this thinline Bible didn't have a cover, and it drove me nuts yesterday. So this morning I made a little cover for it. I wanted some trim as an accent, and I thought about lace but then I saw my Maya Road Organza trim on my table. Perfect! So, here is how my morning creation turned out:

And here are the four Premier Prints decorator fabrics I used. The small polka dot is on the inside of the cover.

I can't wait to take it to BSF tonight. It will be easy to read and much more portable than my study Bibles (that I can no longer read). LOL! Anyway,  I hope you have enjoyed seeing my new cover. Have a blessed Monday!

Art {Journaling} Bookmark

Some of you may remember this post from a few weeks ago when I shared my new BSF notebook for this coming BSF year.

Well, I also made a magnetic bookmark to match my BSF notebook. To create the canvas notebook cover, I painted a piece of canvas with gesso. After letting it dry, I then painted the canvas. You can see it here as I was working on it.

After I was done painting, I cut out the canvas pieces for the notebook.  I then had several strips of canvas left over that I did not want to go to waste, so I decided to make bookmarks out of the strips.

Look at those great strips! To create the bookmark, I used 1" strips. I then used my sewing machine to sew around the edges. I also doodled on each piece. You can see the sewing and doodling in the center strip above.

Then I folded the canvas in half, used the sewing machine across the top to keep it folded, and then added Basic Grey magnets.

I used the ODBD stamp set called the Cross of Christ to stamp a cross on the bookmark. I also finished the canvas with Krylon Matte Finish so that it holds up through the years. Here is how it turned out:

I absolutely LOVE this bookmark. Very sturdy yet different. I made one for one of my daughter's too. I still have a couple of strips left to make a couple more. They each turn out slightly different because of the variety in the painting.  So fun and easy to do!
