Two Different {ICADs}

Today I have two very different ICADs for you. The first was created from a piece of book paper that I used to dab off paint, etc. I loved this particular piece and trimmed it to fit the card. I only added a few splatters, art marks (the white circles), and sewing to finish. Super easy but loved the look. Sometimes your messy paper can turn out to be a great piece that you love.

This second card was created trying a new technique in the Color My Life 2018 class I am taking. I mentioned that this class if free until the end of the month. It has been an extremely helpful class. Truly one of the best classes I have taken over the past 10 years along with Roben-Marie's classes. Click here to see info on the class. {ICAD} Galatians 5:25

Happy New Year! One of my goals this year is to finally finish all of my ICADs (Index Card a Day). Some people only do them for a couple of months but I want one for every day of the year! I write the blessing of the day on the back, and there is room for multiple years (maybe 4 or so). I can't wait to get to the point that I will have several years of "blessings" on the back of each card so that I can read them and remember as I write the current day's blessing.

My box is currently a mix of all different dates. I have cards for most of January, most of June, July, and August complete but from that point, I don't have much. The year on each card corresponds to the year that I made that particular card. So for today's card, you will see it is dated January 29, 2019. All other January cards were completed two years ago in 2017. I am just missing Jan. 29-31. So those three cards will have the year 2019 on them. All cards I make this year will have 2019 on them. Looking back, I can see I have been working on these cards sporadically since 2016. How fun is that? And wow, how my style changes. That's fun to watch also.

Anyway, the inspiration for this card came from a class I am taking by Kellee Wynne Studios. The class is free until the end of January. It is a great, great class. I highly recommend it. I find these ICADs to be the perfect small pieces to try new techniques and colors. You can see her class by clicking here.

So, here is my card for today. I try to include scripture on most of my cards as I find it wonderful to read the scriptures as I go through these each year.

{ICAD} and a Repurposed Card

A few days ago, someone asked on an online forum what people did with RSVP cards from their weddings or their children's weddings. Most responded, "Toss them." Well, I still have a stack myself from my daughter's wedding in June. I couldn't toss that beautiful, heavy paper. So, I have decided to repurpose them to make cards for people.

Today I wanted to show you my first repurposed card. My daughter's dearest friend in medical school asked if I could make her a card. So this is what I have made for her. I also created an ICAD at the same time for myself. I will stamp the date on the tab when I use it. It's super easy to create two things at once instead of reinventing the wheel.

For the back of the card, I covered it in book paper, added some gesso, and I will write her a personal note on the back.

As for the supplies I used, here is a photo of most of what I used. The Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground is new to me. I love it! The ability to use my watercolors and then cover in matte medium is awesome. It gives it such a great, great texture too. I hope you find this supply photo helpful!

God has called me to new things in my local church--one of which is a class He put on my heart called "Holy Leisure." My bestie and I taught it together at our church this past summer testing out the curriculum. It was amazing and received so well. I will be teaching it again in the Spring, and I am also leading another class God also put on my heart called "Craft 'n Connect." I hope to bring bits and pieces of these classes to you here on my blog as God leads me.

In 2019, I plan on crocheting, sewing, doing mixed media art, embroidery, scripture writing, pocket and traditional scrapbooking, etc. I will share these things as I create, and hopefully there is a bit here for everyone to enjoy! A Few {ICADs}

I have been working on my ICADs all week. I have eight to share with you. I will share four of them today, and the other four later in the week. I have had so much fun working on these again. Eventually I want to have one for every day of the year. On the back, I write the blessing for the day. I can then use them over and over until the back is filled up. I hope to get at least 4 years worth of blessings on the back of each card. Now let's look at what I have created.

Glory {Art} Rewind 2018, Plans

As school starts back, I thought we should look at our plans and crazy schedules. Maybe this will be a great reminder for all of us as we enter the school year.

The Study

So how many times a week do you have a crazy, rushed morning where you are late or things are just not going according to your schedule? Thankfully I don't have it happen too often but when I do, it really stresses me. I am a very scheduled person, and I like it that way. LOL! One morning, I was an hour behind getting the dogs on their walk and other things I needed to get done. The phone kept ringing, and I just got very behind. I felt like my whole morning was just a wreck, and I was getting more stressed as time went on. I finally took one of the puppies on a walk. As I got to the end of our street, I was stopped again. But this time it was a blessing. I got to meet our new neighbor that is two doors down from me and was just moving in. God kept saying to me "You were late because I wanted you to have this chance to meet your new neighbor." Wow, did that convict me. Have I ever thought things aren't going my way because I am trying to do things MY way? What have I missed in the past because I have done things my way and not let Him lead me or lead my day? How about you? What have you missed out on because you are doing things YOUR way?

Psalm 31:15 "My times are in Your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me."

Psalm 94:11 "The Lord knows all human plans; He knows that they are futile."

Psalm 121:7-8 "The Lord will keep you from all harm— He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."

Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans."

Proverbs 19:21 "Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails."

Ecclesiastes 3:17 (ASV) "I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work."

2 Corinthians 1:17 "Was I fickle when I intended to do this? Or do I make my plans in a worldly manner so that in the same breath I say both 'Yes, yes' and 'No, no'?"

What does God have in store for you today?  Will you allow Him to lead you so you can find out? Will you trust God with each day or will you continue to take on each day by yourself your way? How about trying it God's way? Commit to Him in prayer each day and let Him establish your plans! (Proverbs 16:3)

The Art

I have not created any ICADs in quite a while. I still have many to create as I want one for every day of the year. Anyway, I decided to create a few this week, and this one was done for this month's study. I used the Proverbs 19:21 verse from above. I have also included a few "in process" photos. I was also working on another ICAD with my extra paint, etc., so that's what you see in the back. I will post it later in the week.

{ICAD} Fun Way to Start a Background

Today I wanted to share a fun way to start a background on an ICAD. You will need:

• Cards
• Gesso
• Stamps
• Black ink
• Water bottle
• Various colored mists
• Rubbing Alcohol

First I added gesso to my two cards. Then I used ink to stamp images on each card. On one I used butterflies, and on the other I used text.

Once dry, I spritzed each card with water then added the mists. While the color pooled, I dropped on a bit of alcohol. The white circle areas in the photos below are where the alcohol was dropped. I keep just a bit of rubbing alchohol in a mister from an old handsanitizer. You can see it in the second photo below. You can also use a Mini Mister.

Once dry, continue to complete the cards however you desire. Here  are my cards after they have dried:

Now they are ready to finish up and add a quote or scripture. Have fun!

{ICAD} The Storage Boxes

Several of you have asked how I store my ICADs. I have shared before but I thought it would be nice to share again with updated photos. I use two boxes. They are both vintage wooden boxes made by Weis. You can find them on eBay, Etsy, and in antique stores. Most come with a lid but I have the boxes that do not have lids. I actually prefer them without lids because I want to see all of the pretty colors, tabs, thread, and ribbons.

I love the smaller box because it easily holds one month's worth of cards. That will be especially nice when I have an entire year's worth of cards and can just have a month sitting on my desk to write the daily blessings. And I am hoping the larger box will hold the entire year. Only time will tell if they will all fit. In these photos, I have three months in the large box, and they are not in there tightly at all. 

And remember, the dividers I use are the Smead Card Guide, Plain 1/3-Cut Tab (Blank), 5"W x 3"H, Manila, 100 per Box (55030). They are also available in several other sizes.

{ICAD} Jan. 22-28, 2017

Happy Saturday. It's time to share a few more ICADs. I will also share the before and after on a few of them. I hope that will be helpful to you to see how they started out. I will reference them by date. First, let's look at the finished pieces.

Now let's look at how some of these cards started out.

#2 became January 25 above.
#5 became January 28 above.

January 24 and 27 looked like this to begin with. I punched a few cardstock circles with my circle punch. For the January 24th card, I placed the circles on the card and then painted over them (bottom card). I did use a bit of adhesive to hold them down. Then I used the piece of cardstock that I punched the circles from, put it down on another card, and painted the green circles you see on the top card to start the January 27th card. These cards were inspired by a bag on etsy by Julia. You can see her bag by clicking here.
