Tuesday's {Tip} 1 Yard Please

Do you have to measure out yardage frequently? I do! It seems I always want a yard of twine or need to measure out a yard of Hug Snug to make my hand-dyed seam binding, etc. I finally got tired of pulling out the yard stick so here is what I did.

I grabbed a black Sharpie and a yard stick. I put the yard stick on my plastic fold-out table that I use for art journaling. I then marked out 1 yard. Yes, I used Sharpie on my table but it gets messy anyway. You could also use pieces of washi tape which would look pretty but it may not stick very well. 

I cannot tell you how often I use this and what a time-saver it has been. My sewing cabinet has a built in ruler but it only goes up to 19 inches. I wanted a full yard. 

I just love these two little markings on my art table, and I am glad I "took the plunge" and marked it! Is there something that you need to mark that might help you? Have a blessed Tuesday!

Tuesday's {Tip} Sew A Bible Cover

As Bible Study Fellowship kicks off next week, I wanted to make a new Bible cover. I decided to carry a different Bible this year. Seems I am always switching things around. I wonder if I get bored easily. LOL! :) Anyway, I used this pattern and adjusted it to create my own unique Bible cover. Here is how my cover turned out:

I purchased the fabric from Hobby Lobby. I also sprayed it with Scotch Guard after I finished all of the sewing. I have found in the past that the covers get too dirty if I don't protect them. 

So, pick up some fun fabric, and create your own Bible cover. Blessings,

Another Bible Cover

One of my girls saw my new Bible cover that I made on Monday, and she asked if I would make her one. If you missed my Bible cover, click here. Now this is my daughter that is "non-frill." She is my tomboy so picking fabric is hard because I want to pick "frill." LOL! Anyway, I took her to Hobby Lobby yesterday morning, and this is what we ended up with:

I am thankful I had the burlap trim on hand (you see it on a lot of my paper creations) because I think it worked well for her cover. This fabric is just 45" printed cotton. I actually prefer using decorator fabric or printed canvas fabric for Bible covers but Hobby Lobby didn't have anything she liked in those fabrics. This will work well for her now, and it was a blessing to make it for her. Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy your Wednesday!

Maya Road Trim on a New Bible Cover

Aging eyes! Ugh! My eye sight is getting so bad that I have a terrible time reading my regular print Bibles. I have several Bibles in many different versions as I use them for study. Well, now I cannot use most of them because they are just too hard to read even with my bifocals. I do have a congenital eye problem which I think is making my issue worse. Anyway, I decided to pull out an old NIV Thinline Large Print Bible that I use for teaching. I don't usually use it for study but it is very portable and easy to read. I took it to church yesterday as I needed to be able to read it. LOL! I think I am going to start using this as my portable Bible, and I will have to buy some new large print study Bibles. I am going to pray about where God would have my "old" Bibles go as I don't think I can use them anymore.

Anyway, this thinline Bible didn't have a cover, and it drove me nuts yesterday. So this morning I made a little cover for it. I wanted some trim as an accent, and I thought about lace but then I saw my Maya Road Organza trim on my table. Perfect! So, here is how my morning creation turned out:

And here are the four Premier Prints decorator fabrics I used. The small polka dot is on the inside of the cover.

I can't wait to take it to BSF tonight. It will be easy to read and much more portable than my study Bibles (that I can no longer read). LOL! Anyway,  I hope you have enjoyed seeing my new cover. Have a blessed Monday!

Organizational {Friday} Fabric

Do you ever feel so overwhelmed by a mess that you are paralyzed? Well, that's about where I am now in the unpacking department! It needs to get finished but I just don't know how to go about it anymore. I don't like that feeling. Well, this morning I was determined to work in my studio some more after leaving the mess for more than a week. I wasn't inspired but decided that I should just take one item at a time and eventually it will all get done.

During a break, I jumped over to Pinterest. It always inspires me. Well, I came across Dawn's gorgeous sewing studio. Oh my! One look, and I knew I would organize my fabric today! I used to keep my fabric in a chest of drawers. It worked perfectly. Well, the movers broke the 4th drawer, and it won't be fixed or replaced until the end of the year. Ugh! So, I decided to empty the chest of drawers and move the fabric to a piece that was down in the basement. This particular storage piece is from Target and belonged to the kiddos. They used it in the foyer of our old home for their shoe cubbies. Well, we are not using it in this house. So, I decided to turn it on end and use it for my fabric.

I have spent all morning folding and organizing fabric. This is going to be wonderful, and I can tell I am going to like this more than the chest of drawers. I folded each piece of fabric into a 12"x12" piece since that's the size of each cubby. Folding the fabric into large pieces really keeps the bulk down. I like that!

Then I organized each cubby into colors. It looks so pretty sitting out in my room. Some of you may recognize this corner of my room as the corner for my new Scrap 'n Cube paper tower. Well, I moved it. LOL! Yes, I just cannot get this room how I want it yet. Also, I did e-mail Dawn and ask her if she has a problem with dust on the fabric and what she does about it. She said she hadn't thought about dust but was more concerned about the sun fading her fabrics so she keeps her blinds closed when the sun is shining in. I may have to do that too.

And lastly, some of my fabrics have a sticker on them with the name of the fabric and the yardage I purchased. I keep the stickers on the fabric as I find it very helpful!
