Organizational {Friday} Room Tour Details

So, last week I posted a little "room/space tour" of my crafting space. If you missed that post, you can see it here. One of the comments/questions came from Cassie. She said:

Cassie said...
thanks for sharing patter! i really liked the toy bin storage redo that you shared earlier in the week -- and would love to know do you have the same thing in ALL the cubes? what other things are you able to fit in there? And where did you get your scrappin cubes?
October 23, 2009 10:23 PM

So, today I thought I would share more details in what I keep in the toy bins and what I keep in the Scrap 'n Cube. So, let's get started.

My Scrap 'n Cube basically holds EVERYTHING. Finding the right piece of furniture for your space is SO important! When my husband and I were looking for furniture for my space, we knew we did not want something permanent such as cabinetry. We wanted to be able to move whatever we decided to purchase to another room or another home someday. While I love rooms that have the cabinetry built in, for us it was not practical. And why spend all of that money when you may not live there forever. That was our thinking anyway. So, we spent all of the money in a portable, rearrangable, AND expandable system! I believe I have had my unit for almost 4 years now, and it still looks brand new. You do not have to build a thing! It comes to you completely built. You just stack your cubes as you want them. They are solid wood not pressboard, and they will be around MANY years after I am gone. The kids already have dibs on who gets the unit after we pass. LOL! They love it too!

Scrap 'n Cube
Let's look at what I have in the drawers. I am going to post a picture of some of the drawers and if I have already covered this particular storage method in a post, I will include a link. If you want to see more details on an item, just click the link! :)

Ribbon
All of my ribbon is kept in 6 drawers of my Scrap 'n Cube. It works beautifully! Here is a link to this topic! Chipboard
Some of my chipboard is kept in the Scrap 'n Cube and some of it is kept in the toy bin. You can see more information here, and you will see the chipboard bin storage below. Ink Spots
Some of my ink spots are kept in a drawer. The others are all stored on my Stampin' Things Unit. You can see more about my ink storage here and my Stampin' Things Unit here. Border Punches
I keep my border punches in one drawer. Now, obviously this drawer is full. If I buy anymore, I will have to have another drawer to store them. So, for now, this keeps me from buying anymore punches! LOL!Rub-ons
I have 3 different drawers filled with rub-ons. I have one drawer for decorative rub-ons, one for rub-on words, and one for rub-on letters. It's always easy to find what I need.Shimmerz and LuminArte Paints
I store my Shimmerz and LuminArte paints these in one of my drawers. It is so handy! And to see complete details, visit the post here.Quickutz Dies
I love keeping my Quickutz dies in my Scrap 'n Cube. They stay neat, I can find what I need fast, and the drawers are so sturdy that I don't have to worry about the weight. Here is a post about this particular storage.Other Items
Some of the other things I store in my Scrap 'n Cube drawers are:
*Bling
*ATC goodies
*Smaller Tools (Scor-It mini, Crop-O-Dile, scissors, etc.)
*Labeler and tapes
*Adhesives (I keep a large hand on supply so I don't run out)
*Card bases from Memory Box
*Tins and smaller items to alter
*Larger flowers

These drawers are amazing and hold so much. I am sure I left out other things that are stored in this unit but it gives you an idea. :)

Toy Bin
Now let's look at some of the things I keep in the toy bin.

6x6 Papers
I store all of my 6x6 papers in 2 of the toy bins. You can find complete details on this storage here. Chipboard
Some of my chipboard I keep in Maya Road tins. And those tins are the perfect size for the smaller sized bin. You can see more about that here.Tools
I keep some of my larger tools in a bin. The larger tools kept here are:
*Bind-it-All
*Crimper
*Quickutz Squeeze

Felt & Other Fabrics
I keep one bin full of colored felt and other fabrics and materials that I use for die cutting. They lay very nicely in the larger bin, and they are easy to grab when I need them.

Watercolors
I keep my large tin of watercolor pencils and my watercolor paper in a bin also.

Other Items
Other items I keep in the toy bin are:
*Larger alterables
*Zutter wires for binding
*Creative Cafe goodies (all in one nice spot)

I hope this post has been helpful. It is hard to show you everything, and I do move things around from time to time. I think most of you have found that organizing is a task that never ends but it is fun! To me anyway. LOL! :) Again, please let me know if you have questions, if you have a specific topic you want covered, etc. Thanks for stopping by, and have a blessed weekend!

Tuesday's {Tip} Sheet Music

Have you ever wondered where people get the sheet music that you see on cards, layouts, altered creations, etc.? There are some scrappy companies that make paper and sell it but I don't personally care for it plus it is expensive. I love the look of an older piece of music.

Today, I wanted to share with you what sheet music I use for my creations. I LOVE to use old hymnals. At first, it bothered me to tear them apart but now, I am okay with it. And I get my hymnals free from Paperback Swap. If you missed my post about Paperback Swap last week, see my post here. I do a search on "hymnal," and all of the available hymnals show up. I have gotten some from 1933, 1940, and my latest is from 1969 (the year my younger brother was born). These also make GREAT gifts for your scrappy friends!

My dear friend Laura of Layers of Color uses sheet music a lot too. I e-mailed her last week to tell her where I get my sheet music, and I was suprised to learn that she uses hymnals too but she gets hers from thift stores. She said they have cost her anywhere from $0.99 to $3 or so! Such a great idea too. So, check those thrift stores!

You can also find old hymnals on eBay. Most are very cheap also but watch the shipping costs! And I had to laugh because I ordered an old Bible encyclopedia from Paperback Swap (free) and I found the EXACT book on eBay for $47! I plan on using the Bible encyclopedia for my cards and creations too!

So, if you are looking for something fun to add to your creations, look into getting an old hymnal! Enjoy, and happy Tuesday!

His Holy Name {Challenge 22, Peace}

Challenge Word 22: Peace
God’s Attribute: The Lord is our Peace. He is our Jehovah-Shalom.

How does this affect my daily life? Do you long for peace in a situation? Has fear gripped you or do you feel like you will ‘lose it’ if one more thing happens? Well, God is our Peace, and He is the source of all peace. But none of us can find that peace if we do not have a right relationship with God. If you have that right relationship with Him, then you know that regardless of our circumstances, His peace is perfect. He gives us internal peace by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. But to truly experience His real peace, we need to be in His presence daily. Are you too busy to study His Word? Are you seeking Him in ALL things? Are you trying to handle the situation on your own? If you have ever tried that before, then you know where that will probably get you. Give it all to Him in prayer so that you are not robbed of His peace.

Ann Spangler said “To live in the presence of God through the power of the Holy Spirit is to be at peace—at peace with God, with others, with ourselves. He is the source of true shalom, of prosperity, harmony, safety, healthy, and fulfillment. No matter how turbulent our world becomes, we can be at peace, showing forth His presence regardless of circumstances.”

For my page this week, I used the wonderful Webster's Pages 6x6 papers. I also used the Layers of Color Royal Birds stamp. It went so perfectly with this page, and to me, I see peace in all of His creation. So, the flowers on the page, the added bird, etc., show me the amazing peace that surrounds me. Papers: Webster's Pages 6x6 collection pack, Paper Trey Ink, Strathmore watercolor paper
Stamps: Layers of Color Royal Birds
Stamp Ink: Memento rich cocoa
Embellishments: Smooch molasses (bird's eye), Derwent watercolor pencils, Thickers jewelry box, Rose Moka brown alpha stickers, Bazzill ribbon

The scriptures I used were:
Isaiah 26:12 "LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us."
Romans 5:1 "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our LORD Jesus Christ."

Remember to use Keyword HHN09 when posting in online galleries, and to chat about the challenge, join us in this thread here on Splitcoaststampers! I will see you again on Nov. 8th with a new study. I hope that you remember that even though we enjoy His peace we still face difficulties that help us grow. Don’t turn away or be discouraged but instead depend on the power of the Holy Spirit that indwells you and experience that peace in all situations. Blessings and peace to you,

Organizational {Friday} Room/Space Tour

So many of you have asked over the past year or so if I would share photos of my scrap room. Well, first, I do not have a scrap room. It is a small space in our media room, and I LOVE it! I can scrap and be with the family while they watch TV, play Wii, etc. Second, it is VERY hard to get good pictures of the space but I have tried to finally do that for you today. Some of the pictures have not come out great but it will give you an idea of how I use my space. So, let's go on a tour!

Let me start this tour by saying that my space is only 6'7" x 8'9" and that is including the size of the furniture. My actual floor space is only 4'10" x 6'10". So, it is small but it works for me. Everything is very organized, and that's how I make it work. It looks piled full, and it is but I can find anything I need with just a swivel of my chair! :)

In this first picture, you can see the backside of my space. My sewing cabinet opens out to the left, and it provides another table top if I need it. My husband can still "pop the feet" of his recliner when my sewing machine is open, and I can sew, craft, and enjoy! You also see the backside of a dresser I keep in my space. It holds photos that need to be scrapped (tons of them) and lots of other bigger items that I don't use that often. It's really a nice storage piece. On top of both the dresser and my sewing cabinet, you can see some of my Scrap 'n Cube pieces with books and embellishments on them. They all serve a purpose, and storing things vertically really helps. And yes, I must remove the items on top of the sewing cabinet to use my sewing machine but it doesn't take long at all. :)
Here is another view of my space from the back. You can see my UM stamp storage on top of my Scrap 'n Cube unit, my paper rack, and my toy bin storage that I altered. It provides tons of storage space! And yes, to the right of the paper rack is a railing to downstairs. I love that! I provides light, and I can also see what is going on downstairs if I need to.
Okay, let's move to the inside view of my space. Oh my, here is where it gets cramped! :) From this view, you can see another smaller dresser I keep near the TV. It stores all of my extra page protectors, completed pages to be filed in albums, items to alter, etc. It is another great piece for storage. In this photo, you can also see my Stampin' Things unit for my inks, Copics, Stickles, and my Cuttlebug. One of my favorite storage pieces!
And finally, for the last view of my space, you can see my Clip-it Up on my table, my scrap paper storage, more of my Scrap 'n Cube unit that really holds everything, and then my trash can and my stool are underneath. I am so short that my feet don't touch the ground so I use my precious stool to rest my feet while I am working. And the white fabric on the back of my chair stays there so that when I am creating tutorials, I can easily throw the fabric on my desk, snap a photo, and continue to create. It works great for me.I hope you have enjoyed seeing full pictures of my space. Remember, you can see close-up photos and ideas of most of these pieces in my previous blog posts. You can see links to all of those organizational posts here. Please let me know if you have questions and what other organizational tips you would like to see. Have a blessed Friday!

A Little Family Fun {Baby Kiwi}

Most of you probably remember seeing this layout of Baby Kiwi:

Well, precious Kiwi came home to us on September 1st, and we have been enjoying EVERY moment with her. She is a hoot, and she brings us great joy each and everyday. She is a White-bellied Caique, and Caiques are known to be the clowns of the parrot world. Well, let me tell you that she is a clown. I never knew birds would play on their backs like dogs and be so smart! She plays on her back all of the time. Here is just a sampling of how she played on her back yesterday:

Well, I just wanted to share our 'little precious'. I hope she brings a smile to your face today. Blessings, Patter

Tuesday's {Tip} Money Saving Sites

With the economy the way it is, I thought I would share a few money saving sites that I visit.

Free Books
First, let's talk about free books. I believe I have mentioned Paperback Swap before but I a not sure. I know I have so many new subscribers so if some of my "old timers" have seen this before, please forgive me for the repeat. Paperback Swap is a place to swap used books. I have been a member since 2007, and I have saved over $378 thus far. For each book someone requests, we get a book credit once we ship it to them and they receive it. Then we get to pick book(s) we want that are listed on the site. Currently, there are almost 4 million book listed. You don’t pay a thing except the postage to ship your book to the requestor. I use media mail so I never pay more than $2.30. All of the books we have received have been in like new condition. And you can put “restrictions” on the books you get such as: "Won’t accept books from a smoking home." "Won’t accept books with any writing." Those are two of the restrictions I have on my account. So that means when I request a book from someone, they can’t send it to me if it doesn’t meet my requirements.

They also have an amazing wish list. If the book you are looking for is not available, add it to your wish list. When it becomes available, they will e-mail you and you can say you still want the book or you can decline it. The only draw back is that new/popular books may take a while to get. I always put things on my wish list anyway because you just never know. I have been pleasantly surprised many times.

To sign up, you must list 10 books you want to swap, and you will get your first credit to spend. If you sign up, please feel free to list me as your referral. My username is Patter. I literally search on EVERY book I need/want for homeschooling, scrapping, card making, Bible study, fiction reading, hymnals, Bibles, etc., there on Paperback Swap first before ever considering buying a book. I even just ordered a book for a friend. It came in new condition, and I gave it to her the other day. She is thrilled! What a cheap way to get Christmas gifts for people too! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Free Digital Images (stamps)
I usually don't like using digital images but I am trying to play with them for a project right now. I have been researching digital sites, and I came across this challenge blog that offers free vintage digital stamp images each week. She has guest designers, tips, and adorable free images for you to use. So, if you can't buy any stamps right now, look into this site: Digital Two for Tuesday.

Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps also offers free digital stamps on Thursdays. You can see more about their freebies here.

There are also many other sites that offer free digital stamps. Just do a google search, and I am sure you will get a wide variety of hits.

Die Cutting Sales
I don't know if you have gone to the Ellison/Sizzix site lately but they have AMAZING sales on their products (Big Shot, Sizzix, Sizzlets, etc.). Sign up for their newsletter, and you will get coupon codes to use too. I love their Clearance Page because most items are 80% off--dies, embossing plates, machines, etc. Shop their clearance before ever shopping anywhere else. You could be VERY surprised!

So, check out these sites, and enjoy saving a bit of money!!! Have a blessed Tuesday.

Tuesday's {Tip} Inking Corners & Tricky Places

Have you ever tried to ink the edges of a piece of shaped chipboard or some other piece? If you have, I am sure you found that trying to ink the small corners can be very hard and definitely messy! Even using the small cat eye inks or other tiny ink "spots" can be tricky and messy. Well, today I thought I would share how I ink those tricky places.

First, grab a Q-tip. I keep a supply of them on my craft table. I ink up one end of the Q-tip. I then use that to ink those tricky places. It works perfectly! I usually just have to use one end of the Q-tip, so I take my scissors, cut off the used end, and I save the opposite end to use another time. Here is a chipboard flower I inked this past weekend using my "inked" Q-tip. Definitely a neater look then trying to do it with my ink pad! I hope this tip has been helpful, and if you are wondering what the piece is I created this weekend, see Part 1 of my tutorial here. Part 2 will be posted on Wednesday. :) Have a blessed day!

His Holy Name {Challenge 21, Sanctifies}

Challenge Word 21: Sanctifies
God’s Attribute: The Lord Sanctifies You. He is our Jehovah-mekoddishkem.

How does this affect my daily life? Do you want to be conformed to His image? Do you want that above all things? If you are hungry to be more and more like Him, you will pray, read His word, go to church, and be filled with the ways and thoughts of God. Are you filled with His ways and thoughts daily? We certainly shouldn’t compare ourselves to others. God is our only standard of righteousness and holiness. He is our greatest example. Already this year, we have seen that He is Holy, He is Faithful, He is our Rock and will not be shaken, etc. We can develop some of these through sanctification. Sanctification in the believer is the process of spiritual maturity in holiness or conformity to the image of Christ. I encourage you to read Romans 6:1-23 and 8:1-17. It is the work of the Holy Spirit and is a divine work. We must cooperate in that work by being in prayer, in Bible study, involved in church, involved in the worship of God and serving Him, and trusting the Holy Spirit to change our character. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." I also encourage you to continue reading from Galatians 5:16-26, Ephesians 4:27-5:31, and Colossians 3:1-17.

In the book “Walking with Christ in the Details of Life,” Patrick Morley said “The holiness we are to exhibit is not our own but the holiness of Christ in us. We are not holy, and we will not become holy humans. Christ in us can manifest His holiness if we will yield our flesh to Him. This is not a human operation; it is a spiritual one. Jesus installs His holiness in us by grace. Not a once-for-all-time transaction; this is a daily, moment-by-moment striving to live more by the Spirit and less by the flesh. Becoming holy is a process which includes God’s part and our part. On one hand, our part is to stay out of God’s part—to yield, to surrender, to stop seeking God on our own terms. But our part is also to obey. It is to enter His rehabilitation program. We have no more power to make ourselves holy than a dying man has to save himself. We are weak and tired, and we cannot offer much help. However, we can submit to His rehabilitation program—sanctification. The key to our part is faith—to seek Him in obedience.”

How are you being conformed daily to His image? Will you follow Him completely starting today? How will you make Him the center focus of your life, and cooperate with the Holy Spirit in the process of sanctification?

For my page today, I used 6x6 papers by Webster's Pages. I chose the calendar because I want to remember that sanctification is a daily process. Papers: Webster's Pages 6x6 collection pack
Stamp Ink: Palette burnt umber
Embellishments: Bazzill bitty blossoms, Martha Stewart arch lattice punch, Scenic Route 'afterthoughts' rub-ons, KaiserCraft pearls, My Little Shoebox cream alpha stickers

The verses I used are:
Leviticus 20:26 “You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.”
John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23 “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Remember to use Keyword HHN09 when posting in online galleries, and to chat about the challenge, join us in this thread here on Splitcoaststampers! I will see you again on October 25th with a new study. I pray that you will cooperate with Him each day in the process of sanctification so that you will become more and more like Him. Blessings,

The card I have created for today's hop uses some of the new Webster's Pages 6x6 papers I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. They are so beautiful! And the stamps are from Our Daily Bread Designs. I also used my VersaFine toffee ink to sponge the edges of the tag and the entire card. It was the perfect color for these papers. Papers: Webster's Pages Holiday Collection, Memory Box notecard
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs Grow in Grace, Our Daily Bread Designs Let Us Begin
Stamp Ink: VersaFine vintage sepia and toffee
Copics: E55, E59, R46, R59, G21, G24

The winner will email me and let me know who they would like the card to be sent to along with a message for the inside of the card. So, who do you know that needs to hear about God's abounding grace?

Also, our other exciting news is that Kelley from Our Daily Bread Designs has graciously agreed to "sponsor" this blog hop. There will be a random winner chosen from ALL the comments left on ALL of the blogs. That lucky winner will receive the "grand prize" of ANY stamp set they wish from Our Daily Bread Designs. Chelsea will announce that winner on the Wait for the Lord Cards blog so be watching to see if you are the lucky winner!

Now, please hop on over to Rebecca's blog to see what she has waiting for you! And I leave you with this:
2 Corinthians 13:14 "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all."

Organizational {Friday} Keeping Track of Supplies Used

Do you want to keep track of the supplies you use on a creation? Have you thought about it? Have you ever noticed how I post my supply list underneath the creations I post here on my blog? I know people browsing in online galleries love to see supply lists too! And what about submitting your work to magazines or design teams? Sometimes they need a product list, and if you organize your work this way, it will be easy to provide this list to anyone that may need it! And if you are like me, you sometimes for get where you purchased that gorgeous ribbon or whatever the "embellishment" may be!

Today, I thought I would share with you my article on how to keep track of your supplies. I hope it is helpful to some of you. You can see the article here. And feel free to e-mail me if you decide when you are organizing that you would like to use my Excel spreadsheet. I would be happy to share my file. Have a blessed day!

A Little Thursday {Inspiration}

Good morning amazing blog readers! I pray you have had a great week thus far. I know the weather is starting to cool down here, and it is wonderful--mid to high 80's with a nice breeze! Ohh, just love it!

Well, today I wanted to share a couple of my latest creations with you. First up is a layout I created for Layers of Color. I used the Layers of Color Renaissance Hearts stamp set. I just think that set is so elegant. And then I had fun with some Shimmerz by dressing up the chipboard a bit with Celery Shimmerz. This is a 9x9 page, and here is how it all turned out: Papers: Bazzill, Basic Grey Lime Rickey, Fancy Pants Kraft Kuts
Stamps: Layers of Color Renaissance Hearts
Stamp Ink: SU garden green
Alphas: We R Memory Keepers metal alphas, Making Memories Chloe's Closet alpha stickers
Embellishments: Cactus Pink chipboard lace, Scenic Route Save the Date chipboard circle, Heidi Swapp bling circle frame, KaiserCraft rhinestone, Shimmerz celery, hemp from Hobby Lobby

Next is an altered tin I made. I pray a certain mother of mine does not see this before I get it into her hot little hands but if you are reading Mom, stop here please. :) This little tin contains photos of all of my parent's grandchildren. Mom asked for one to keep in her purse so hopefully she will be pleased with how it turned out. I used some of the new Memory Box Dewfrost 6x6 papers along with Coffee Shimmerz on the chipboard and along the edges of the tin to give it an aged look. Papers: Memory Box Dewfrost, Memory Box robin's egg cardstock
Stamp Ink: SU close to cocoa
Paint: Shimmerz coffee, Making Memories shopping bag
Embellishments: Rose Moka brown alphabet stickers, Deluxe Designs chipboard, May Arts ribbon, Prima flowers, misc. buttons, Create Café felt flowers, Making Memories staples

I also created a four-part tutorial for Memory Box when making this tin. If you want to see the complete instructions so that you can make your own, here are all of the pieces to the tutorial.

Altering a Tin Part 1
Altering a Tin Part 2
Pages for Your Altered Tin Part 3
Finishing Your Altered Tin Part 4

I hope you enjoyed today's inspiration. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great Thursday!
